FS: 22" Schwinn Sports Tourer - $140

EDIT: Sold

This a fillet-brazed chromoly 1973ish Sports Tourer in Opaque Blue, made in Chicago. I'm selling the frame/fork plus extras for $140 plus shipping via BikeFlights (usually $20-40). It's Schwinn's 22" size. Here are the actual measurements of the frame:
Seat tube CTT: 22.25" (565mm)
Seat tube CTC: 20.5" (520mm)
Top tube CTC: 22.5" (570mm)

The frame is just a bit too big for me. Here's what comes with the frame:
  • Newish Shimano cartridge bearing bottom bracket. 116mm spindle length for a double crankset. Spins very smoothly with only a few miles on it.
  • Newish Tange MX cartridge bearing headset. Beautiful alloy headset that fits the unique Schwinn headtube inner diameter. Spins very smoothly with only a few miles on it.
  • Front cable hanger with cable adjuster from Rivendell.
  • Original Schwinn seatpost binder clamp but retrofitted with stainless hardware.
  • Original Schwinn-branded GB alloy stem (70mm long, 25.4 clamp diameter, 21.1mm insertion diameter).
  • Suntour Cyclone (1st gen) front derailleur with built-in cable stop and clamp modified to fit the slightly larger than standard Schwinn seat tube. In great condition.
  • Shimano Crane long cage rear derailleur (Schwinn Le Tour-branded). In great condition. Comes with adapter washer for use on Huret dropouts.
The space between the rear dropouts is 128mm. The seat tube takes a 26.8mm seatpost. I had 700C wheels mounted, which required a long reach rear brake (I used a Dia Compe 750). The maximum tire clearance for 700C is about 35mm depending on where you put the axle in the dropouts. The rear dropouts are Huret - but the rear derailleur I'm including comes with the stock adapter washer for using a non-Huret derailleur.

The paint, chrome, and decals are in OK condition. There are a variety of paint chips and decal scuffs. The chrome is still complete but with some slight pitting in a few spots. The head badge is in excellent condition. I chased the fork steerer and bottom bracket threads and cleaned up any minor surface rust spots when I built the bike. It's not a show piece but a great rider and looks good from 10 feet away.

Any questions? Let me know.

That's a great deal. The RD is worth at least half of the asking price.

I don't know if the RD is worth quite that much but this is a rocking deal for sure.

Great deal for whoever got it. My heart always flutters when I look at the Sports Tourer. I had a 75 model I used to commute four years to college.
