WTB: Groupset Fitting '72 PX-10

Doesnt't need to be stock but a period correct Stronglight crankset would be nice.

I need the whole shebang (cranks, headset, seat post, brakes, shifters, bottom bracket, etc.). I have a Cinelli 1A stem. I can find a wheelset locally to keep shipping cost down.

Trying to reign in cost on this build so while a Campy set would be nice, its likely I can't afford it.

Thanks!

I’m fairly sure I have a Stronglight 93 crankset if that’s what you’re looking for.

Note that the bike came with simplex derailleurs and the hanger does not work with Shimano components, if you had any thoughts of going that way, I don't know about compatibility with Campy components.

The drop out can be modded to work with a campy/suntour RD. The easiest solution is a derailleur on a hanger but you'll get a lot of flack for that. The easiest mod is to simpy tap out the derailleur hanger; a shimano crane or a campy rally will work (at least the first gen as it has a stop). This is a nice easy mod and you can still run a simplex on this.

Otherwise thread the drop out and file out a hanger.

Simplex derailleurs are getting harder to find as time goes on.

Thanks. I saw that but didn't realize it would be a PITA to get another RD to work. I have a Campy RD I thought might work. Don't want to go the hanger route.

Damn. Look like I may have to find a Simplex RD. Thanks for the mod tip. I'll check it out.

A Shimano Crane or Titlist derailleur would only require tapping the mounting bolt hole with 10mm x 1mm thread; no filing needed.

I have Peugeot-branded Stronglight 104 crank arms that are about a decade newer than your frame, if that's ok. These would have the advantage of using a standard 22mm crank extractor, rather than the proprietary 23.35mm extractor a period correct Stronglight crank would require. I could probably scrounge up some chainrings as well.

snip . .
+ 1. This is the easiest solution. These are quality derailleurs and the cost is not prohibitive. A long cage simplex RD will likely cost more $.

I could set you up with Stronglight HS and BB, 93 cranks, MAFAC Racers, Simplex derailleur set with levers, bits and bobs like Simplex cable guides, mafac cable stops.
PM if interested.

I have a complete Peugeot Course that I had planned to harvest the parts. It has the Peugeot branded crankset and SX410 RD. I'm not sure on the compatibility of the BB and headset. Mafac brakeset with good hoods.

There’s a nice PX-10 local to me that I’ve been meaning to go check out. If I do I’ll let you know.

@cqlinkI believe the '72 is French metric bike. This means that the stem has to be the right diameter for the steerer along with knowing the correct BB shell threading for a matched BB. The stem may also limit the HB soluton. 3ttt was original as was the Stronglight headset and crank. If you get a Stronglight crank, then check the threads for the pedals as they were often French specific threading as well. The Mod 93 Stronglight needs a 118 spindle for the BB.

rootboy at one time had fabricated some adapters such that a Campagnolo NR derailleur could be used on a Simplex dropout. Not sure if he's still making them or not.

I can't thank you all enough for the part leads. I was able to find a 99.9% complete PX-10 groupset. I think I'll go after a back-up FD, water bottle and dropout spacers (please advise if anyone has a set) next.

Just picked up a set of spacers on eBay for $8.99 shipped. They're yours for the same, just PM me to sync up. I have a box with 30-something water bottle cages in it, some which may fit the year/model, but not sure if I'll have the DT brackets for it.

(Crap, guess I need to leave feedback for this seller. Was a good sale!)

PM sent. I received the groupset today but one of the RD jockey wheels has a missing tooth. Found it in the bag. Do you have one?

Are these wheels Simplex specific or can I use/ modify another jockey wheel to fit?

Best to use Simplex again and, yes, common for teeth to crack off. I've got at least one or two spares, I'll add one or more into the package. Will get to the PM a bit later, I'm a tad overloaded tonight.
