Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Today I donated money to a fund to help a Chicago cyclist who was doored and then run over last week and almost died. Dustin broke 23 out of 24 of his ribs, his pelvis, broke his shoulder blade and fractured the bottom of his skull.

I don't think I've met Dustin, but (small world) turns out my boyfriend knows him, completely unrelated to cycling. Tiny Fix will probably help with additional fundraisers in the future. I can't even imagine what his medical bills will be.

Thats insane. Hope he heals up quickly.

Also, this Pollack needs paczki, and I don't know a bakery around me that sells good ones. I might have to resort to the boxed ones they sell at wallyworld.

And today is the first game in the Round of 16 for UEFA champions league play. My favorite club is up against Italian giants Juventus, so its going to be a hard game. They did beat Barca in group stage, so here's hoping.

First time I ever had one my buddy says "don't breathe when you bite", First bite I was choking to death on the powdered sugar.

Today whiskey is dinner.

Today I changed the height of my stem, moved my grips in to none gorilla-like width to see how I like it annnd now am about to cook myself a scotch-fillet steak for lunch before I clean the pool. It's also a glorious day, sitting at a lovely 34 degrees celsius (90-95ish f I think). Life is good.

This morning I built a wheel for a customer while he waited (which is against both shop policy and my better judgement). After prepping the spoke threads it took about 18 minutes from start to finish. Happy customer was happy.

Why is it against shop policy? It'd be pretty cool to shoot the **** with you in the shop while you built my wheels.

In my experience it's better to not do such involed stuff while a customer waits because a number of things could potentially go wrong and there's usually a lot of other things happening. Dude was a pretty regular customer though so I dropped what I was doing and hooked him up.

One, customer can distract you, causing a screw up.

It could be anything - the phone could ring, another customer could come in needing help, etc.

I'm going to be taking a break from commuting. I'm even doubting if I'll meet my mileage goals this year. Am really into the dmr it seems this year.

Today I almost got pushed into traffic because this guy didn't know that you're suppose to go with traffic (plus there is an arrow on the ground to tell you which way to go), as well as being cut off by some Honda SUV who wasn't looking when he was making a right hand turn.

Other than the negative, I'm getting more and more comfortable with my new handle bars and biking position, and more control with my legs on my fixie.

Today I rode home I'm 35-50 knot wind. It was slow and not very fun, especially because part of my ride is by an air strip and there is nothing to block the wind
