Giant ocr 3 road conversion set up.
Sorry if this question has been asked before I couldn’t find the thread.
I bought a used 2007 or 2008 giant ocr3. The previous owner didn’t remember the exact year. I have a shimano 3x8 with a long cage Derailer on the back sprocket. There original. I decided to change to flat bars. Purchased on EBay Flat bar with shimano Tiarga flat bar 3x10 shifters and Shimano Tiarga 10 speed long cage rear derailer. What size rear cassette should I get. I’m looking at a shimano 11-34 or should I go with something like a 12-28. Thanks all.

What cassette is on there now, and do you feel that you need higher or lower gearing? A 3X10 should have a pretty wide range already due to the triple up front, so an 11-34 cassette might just give you a lot of overlap with big steps between gears, whereas a 12-28 might be better in terms of more gradual steps and fewer duplicated gear combinations.

In my opinion gears over 100 gear-inches are too high

I have a Shimano 3x8 I have shimano acera long cage 8 speed and a 12x25 cassette that came with the bike. I purchased the Shimano Tiarga flat bar gear 3x10 and a Tiarga long cage 10 speed Derailer. I just got back into bikes after a 30 year layoff. First road bike I ever owned. But turns out my body is better suited for a flat bar so I decided to change what I have on it now. I’m still trying to figure what works better the 11-34 cassette or the 12-28 because of the long cage Derailer. I can’t return them now. No return policy on eBay
