Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why A Custom Bike - Q&A With Emma Pooley & WyndyMilla

Former British national champion and World Time Trial champion Emma Pooley discusses the past, present and future of custom bikes, July 15th, with WyndyMilla's in house custom team.

Pooley, who was one of the shortest women in the professional peloton, has vast experience of the challenges and benefits of riding a made-to-measure bike. The evening starts with the Tour de France highlights at 7pm and the panel discussion begins at 8pm. Stick around after to socialise with the WyndyMilla team and enjoy a beverage or two.

She is a great athlete, and likely a very nice person. But to be honest, I became weary of her negative banter. Si is still my favorite. YMMV

I'd noticed she hasn't been in any recent videos but I didn't know she had formally left. That sucks. I liked her a lot.

She left to take a job as an Engineer or something. While she is probably a great person I agree she had some negativity in her personality. If you followed her on social media she was kind of short tempered actually, she is a firecracker I bet, loved her for that.

but wasn't my favorite on GCN.

I too like Si and Dan, the new boys are great too Olly is super good on camera. I think I like Jon the best...so darn smart and I like how he carries himself on the shows too.

Lets be honest they are all great. I hope they use Kathrin more for the female perspective, she is great too. I miss lasty and I don't miss the other guy….Matt, he annoyed me.....

At first I thought the newest guys (Chris and Hank) were a little awkward on camera, but they've settled into the role and I really enjoy both of them now. Ollie has always been awesome, he was on Cycling News' channel for years so he has a lot of experience in front of a camera and it shows.

Anyone know what he has a PhD in? They call him Dr. Bridgewood sometimes but I'm not sure what he studied.

That's one hell of an educational CV... I always wonder how well the GCN gig pays its presenters. You'd have to think with that background he'd have no problem landing a job in a STEM position with a very nice salary, but he's stayed in the cycling YouTube world for years. Obviously the job he has now is literally a dream job where many of us would pay to be able to do it, but I still wonder what the compensation looks like, especially when I see Dan Lloyd seemingly owning a Mclaren 675 based on some of his Instagram posts.

I don't know how it really works I guess but with the youtube money paid, and all the sponsor of the show I bet they do ok. they are owned by the company play sports. Not sure how much money they made in their careers either that carried over. Dan was reasonable successful as a cyclist. Not sure about the rest though.

Emma was obviously very successful.

I liked Emma's deadpan, low key snark. Never read her social media stuff, no idea how she comes across there. If you read enough YouTube comments on Emma's GCN videos, you can see how she might grow weary of the well intended but shallow attitudes about how cute or tiny she is, or anything other than her competence in cycling and methodology.

One of my real life friends has the same challenges. Due to her diminutive size she's too often treated in a diminutive way by boneheaded men. Her deadpan humor is very high snark, which I find hilarious. I can absolutely see why she's developed that prickly sense of humor.

Anyway, with all the professional opportunities on her plate, I always doubted Emma would stay with GCN for long. Her contributions were terrific. I'm hoping GCN finds more women presenters, someone like Juliet Elliot. There's a growing market to be had so it's good business on top of everything else.
