New tires are discolored at creases where bent in packaging...

I just got new tires in the mail, that come folded, prepackaged, from Schwalbe. They are 29'ers. At all the points where the tires was folded and creased to put into the packaging, the tires is slightly discolored, almost a white tint to it. They are also a little warped their obviously. I assume the warp part will go away once in place and inflated, but I am not sure how the whiteness is going to go away from the crease. Will it? Or is it something that is permanent from sitting folded in the box too long, and kind of like stretch marks now, but in discoloration?

I might not have the wheels till the end of the month to put the tires on, so I wanted to know ahead of time if this is something that needs to be sent back for some odd reason, or it is just normal and I am not use to seeing it because this is only my second set of premium tires and the first ones didn't do that from what I recall.

I buy foldable tires all the time and they've never had white creases. I know what you're talking about though and it sounds like a tire with dried out rubber. I'm just guessing here. I would at least contact them and voice your concerns. It's too bad bike tires aren't dated like motor vehicle tires. Good luck and let us know what you learn.

Sometimes mold release compound is left on the tire's surface. It can look white on a dark/black backround. Andy

Here's a thought. Put a tube in it and lightly air it up enough to shape it and see if the white will wash or rub off. If it's mold release compound it should clean up.

Did you unfold them and this whiteness is still present? Or are they still folded up?

Mount and inflate the tires, then go ride 60 km of mud and gravel, and you will not notice any discolouration of the tires.

I just installed some Hutchinson folded tires that had slight discoloration on the fold creases. Once mounted the discoloration disappeared.
