Brand new here!! What a great subject! I too am type 2 and did not take it very serious for the first couple of years until I recently got a wake up call. Now after shedding 35lbs with 30 more to go I am just starting to ride a bike again (after 40 years!). My glucose numbers are about 115 in the morning & settle in at about 85-95 during the day. I was fitted for a bike recently to try to insure long term success but am still sore using muscles I forgot I had.... or never knew I had. Figuring out what to eat, when to eat & how much to eat before & after a ride has also been a challenge but I'm starting to dial it in a bit with help from others. I hope to gain much insight here from other long term bikers over 50 to make my riding as fruitful as possible.

Welcome Bammy!! I have had a little better luck lately, and tried what's known as "paired testing" (testing immediately before eating, and then again two hours later).
My biggest challenge may be what to eat prior to rides once the weather warms up. Usually, by Memorial Day, I am meeting a small group at 6:00 am or earlier and riding 25-27 miles at 17-18 mph. I have always done this before eating, but not sure if that's going to be in my best interest going forward - as I am clearly getting a liver dump with my 55 minute spinning sessions.
