tire question

My current bike has 700c X 38 tires. Is it likely that other width tires will fit? I've noticed that a lot of tires come in 37 widths but not 38.

ok, I found this table that answers the question. I'm sure that it is a "bicycling for dummies" type of question, but that is where I am. I was pretty sure that different widths would work, but I wasn't sure how to best judge. This table helps:

Anything 35 to 40 will be very similar, and maybe even the same size. The only thing governing your choice will be available frame/fork clearance. 3mm is what? Maybe 1/8 inch..... if even that much when it comes to tire manufacturers measurements.

Keep in mind that it is not just the size of the tyre, but the quality of it as well that will determine your riding experience.

That is one reason that I was trying to figure out my options.

while I realize that manufacturers may make a full line of tires that range across several quality levels, I'm curious to know what everyone's favorite tire brand is. Any specific models would be interesting to know as well.

In the 32-40 range, I love Schwalbe Marathon Supreme, except in snow or ice. Wet or dry, they are amazing, and about as flat free as you can get.

I just started riding these Compass Stampede Pass 700 x 32 Tires | Road Bike Rider and absolutely love them. Extremely comfortable and quick. Actual measurement on my rims is about 29.5mm. Available in black or tan sidewalls, and in other sizes.

Fitted some Continental Gp4000s this morning, 700 x 25. They feel a nice, rubbery, sticky compound compared to the Specialized Roubaix Pros that were on. Will test them out on Monday, did consider putting 28's on but went for 25's.

I have the GP 4000s on my rode bike. I don't think I'll ever consider another tire.
The first day I put them on my bike I went out a broke a couple personal records on a quick ride I often do around my house.

Sorry, I meant the Grand Prix tyres, not the 4000s or s2's. Still feel very sticky though

I have the Gatorhardshell which I replaced from the OEM 32s. I found that I rarely leave the tarmac, so I went with these for the extra speed. I had briefly considered going as low as 25s, but decided not to push the hybrid line too far out of its comfort zone.

Before I had a liners due to constant flats, but so far the Gatorhardshell have been up to the task. I was a bit concerned about contact on wet roads, but the adhesion has been pretty predictable so far. Although it does get pretty scary going over wet bridge grates. Fortunately, these bridges are rare.

First ride with the Grand Prix today, the 22 mile trip home from work. Think I had a few too many psi, but felt ok. I managed an average of 18mph so what a fab tyre.
