A big goose in the oven can bring lots of family around. Usually a good thing! I hope you enjoyed the day. Was it wild game by any chance? Here in NJ, goose and duck are not that common in the big supermarkets but there are still farmers to get them from, as well as hunting. We have an overabundance of Canada Geese that have stopped migrating and are now "resident". Very good duck population passing through too.

it was store bought,I stopped hunting goose and duck, because wild ones are terrible to eat ,and I am not going to kill one unless I eat it...

I am 53.

1. What type of bikes do 50+ folks ride?

I ride a Surly LHT. Bought it last year after about 4 yrs of fair weather commuting on a 20+ yr old bike.

2. Do you take any special supplements/vitamins/minerals as you have grown older?

I've been taking vitamins regularly since my 20s. Just a multivitamin with a strong B dose. Like a stress tab.

3. How much do you feel you have "slowed down" if any?

I've gotten stronger ever since I started riding. This year, I rode continuously since May. Didn't drive my car until late August and only because of a family medical emergency. I've put over 4000 miles on my LHT since I bought it last August.

4. How long have you been biking? New, around a while, biked all your life?

Biked to school when I was in high school. Didn't bike any until 4-5 years ago.

5. What type of biking do you do? Long rides, touring, short rec rides.

Commuting. I'm getting into touring. Just did a tour of New Hampshire. Self-supported, solo. Rode 450 miles.

6. How often do you bike? Your approximate annual mileage?

I've only started counting since I bought my LHT last year. First time I put a cyclo-computer on a bike. Have clocked 4000+ miles since last August.

Please tell us your age. 66 now, began riding again after almost 50 years

1. What type of bikes do 50+ folks ride?

Started with a Cannondale Adventure (hybrid)

As of a month ago started with a Scott CR1 Team with Shimano 105 Group set; This week graduated to pedals and shoes

2. Do you take any special supplements/vitamins/minerals as you have grown older?

No -- same old Centrum pills and perhaps a few more pain killers.

3. How much do you feel you have "slowed down" if any?

Well, when you start a zero, you can only go up. So my times, speed and burned calories have increased steadily over the 3 years been riding. So answer is speeded up as aged...

4. How long have you been biking? New, around a while, biked all your life?

3 years and a few months; stopped biking before left high school

5. What type of biking do you do? Long rides, touring, short rec rides.

Go for a work out so goal is 1 hour, 1,000 calories (Garmin) --whichever comes first. That's usually 15 miles. Typical ride right now is 65 minutes, 16 miles and 1100 calories or so

Some times go out for longer trips with friends -- two weekends ago went 25 miles; last weekend 20 miles.

6. How often do you bike? Your approximate annual mileage?

Go 3 to 4 days/mornings per week when not traveling (gone/travel about two months a year). Annual mileage thus about 1,700 although hope to get to 2,000 or more. The Scott has made a bid difference in calories and speed.

Best news my health has improved; heart/lung are in great shape -- don't get out of breath -- just achy legs; oh...and dropped 25+ pounds in the 3 years. What a great thing this biking is.

If you haven't already, perhaps you might indicate your age. It helps others to see that folks 50+ do great things.

Wow. It's now time to post into the 50+ forum!! A true turning point!

I just turned 50. Been biking for probably 47 years! I consider myself an avid recreational cyclist. My miles/year have varied over time but for the past 15 years I've probably logged 60000+ miles commuting alone. Though I commute less frequently nowadays (home office and travel), commuting probably accounts for 90+% of my cumulative mileage.

My wife and I have done several multi-day tours on our tandem (ex: https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/summer09tour). I've done countless event rides (i.e., centuries) but tend not to do them so much any more in favor of longer, self-supported rides.

We have a total of seven bikes, which is kind of ridiculous. My favorite is my trusty Trek 520 but I love tandeming with the Missus (Cannondale RT3000). I haven't a clue how many miles I clock in a year as my odometers all broke down in succession about 3 years ago and I haven't replaced them--nor do I intend to!!--but I'd put it in the ~3000/yr range. I spend considerable time in Boston for work (I live in San Jose) and I have a beautiful early 80s era Trek out there. I used to mountain bike a bunch but gave it up to in order to stay in one piece.

My overall health is excellent and I think biking has a lot to do with that. I've picked up some weight recently owing to the absence of commuting, which I miss. But I haven't noticed a dramatic change in my endurance or riding capabilities except, maybe, for the heat, which I can't seem to tolerate as much as I once did. I run a fair amount as well and alternate emphasis between the two which helps balance out injuries.

My wife and I are hopefully celebrating our 25th anniversary with a bike ride down Highway 1 from Carmel to Santa Barbara, but she's not 100% recovered from her breast cancer reconstructive surgery she underwent last summer. But we're a solid tandem team so there's always hope! (https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/s...nniversaryride).

All for me. Will there be a separate check-in for 60+?

1. What type of bikes do 50+ folks ride?
I am a roadie and ride a 2011 Cannondale Synapse 5

2. Do you take any special supplements/vitamins/minerals as you have grown older?
No I do not, I do take meds for Type II Diabetes

3. How much do you feel you have "slowed down" if any?
No, and I hope I never do

4. How long have you been biking? New, around a while, biked all your life?
I started road biking when I was a young kid, but stopped after college and picked it up again 7 years ago and BOY am I happy I did!

5. What type of biking do you do? Long rides, touring, short rec rides.
I would like to do more longer rides (50+ miles), especially in my current area (Halton Region Ontario Canada). tend to keep my rides around 20-30 miles. All rec rides. My one huge desire is to ride through The Loire Valley in France or through Italy...heck...anywhere in Europe.

6. How often do you bike? Your approximate annual mileage?
I don't ride nearly as much as I would like to. I probably am at about 150-200 miles per month.

If you haven't already, perhaps you might indicate your age. It helps others to see that folks 50+ do great things.

I was 50 on March 21st and I am loving this stage of my life, even though I see no retirement in the near future (not by choice anyway)

1. What type of bikes do 50+ folks ride?

I ride a Giant Defy I. Looking at a Trek FX for trails.

2. Do you take any special supplements/vitamins/minerals as you have grown older?

Nope.

3. do you feel you have "slowed down" if any?

I didn't start riding regularly again until I turned 46. My mileage is up and my speed is up since then. Surely my capacity to get faster is not what it was when I was younger.

4. How long have you been biking?

As long as I can remember. I got serious when I turned 46.

5. What type of biking do you do? Long rides, touring, short rec rides.
bopping around town?

I typically ride 20 miles to 30 miles. My longest is 40. i ride against the clock to monitor my performance.

6. How often do you bike?

My goal is 20 miles per night weeknights after work. I ride 25 to 30 on Saturday and Sunday. Those are my goals. I don't ride everyday. I have clocked 1500 miles since March.

7. indicate your age. It helps others to see that folks 50+ do great things.

1. What type of bikes do 50+ folks ride?

Got a Gary Fisher Tarpon July 1 2011
Just got a Giant Advanced a week or so ago. Holy cow have bikes come a long way in 40 years!

2. Do you take any special supplements/vitamins/minerals as you have grown older?

Nope.

3. do you feel you have "slowed down" if any?

Absolutely

4. How long have you been biking?

I didn't start riding, other than when I was a kid with no car, until last July

5. What type of biking do you do? Long rides, touring, short rec rides. bopping around town?

I don't live 'in town' nearest town is a couple mile away. I'll bike anytime I can - 15 miles at lunch to 70 miles on a saturday or Sunday. Decent roads around to bike and there is always the C&0 canal when I want.

6. How often do you bike?

As often as I can. I've logged 1700 miles on the Tarpon since July 1 and 200 miles on the Giant since I got it a week or so ago.

7. indicate your age. It helps others to see that folks 50+ do great things.

Does liking sunset photography more and more mean I'm getting older (or just better)?

It DOES look a lot like yours! Mine is a sunrise however. That is, the Assiscunk creek photo. The other shot od the nearby river is a sunset.

I'm 52 and I live in Phoenix, Arizona.

1. What type of bikes do 50+ folks ride?
Moots VaMoots with Dura-Ace. I've been riding Shimano since the late 70;s except for one bike with Campy C-Record in the late 80's.

2. Do you take any special supplements/vitamins/minerals as you have grown older?
Multi-vitamin, fish oil, COQ-10, Glucosamine.

3. How much do you feel you have "slowed down" if any?
Alot and far less mileage. I stopped riding for a number of years because of work travel but have been back into it for a year or so and lost 60 lbs in the process. :-)

4. How long have you been biking? New, around a while, biked all your life?
All my life. High end road bikes since the late 70's.

5. What type of biking do you do? Long rides, touring, short rec rides.
10 to 30 mile rides, longer event rides.

6. How often do you bike? Your approximate annual mileage?

3 or 4 times a week. I'm too lazy to estimate mileage.

I'm 55 and just started biking in late July. I did ride my Schwinn Airdyne daily for 25 years though. I bought myself a new bike, Trek 7100 the day before my birthday Sept.27 and love it. My old bike is an '80's Schwinn Sidewinder mountain bike which I think is going to be my winter bike. Anyway I've already ridden 1300+ miles on my Trek and about 900 on my old bike, so about 2200 since late July. I ride at least 20 miles a day after work and anywhere from 30 to 50 on the weekend days and normally skip Friday. I ride the country rodes of SE Michigan and look forward to riding every day. Cycling just makes me feel good, body and mind.

I am 55, live in northeast Ohio, and ride an 80's Schwinn World Sport. I have not gotten on a new bike because I don't want to know what I'm missing, but I'm damn happy with the World Sport. Been riding for about 5 years after a 25 year hiatus (why?!) and LOVE it. I try to get out on at least 2-3 rides a week of anywhere between 20 and 40 miles, some on road, some on bikepaths, and a ton of miscellaneous trips around town. I try to ride all year. No supplements at all. I play basketball twice a week and my biking helps me keep up with high school kids. I don't beleive I've slowed down much, though I do notice things the next day that I didn't used to.

retired and riding!

I'm 57 and just retired and am looking forward to riding a whole lot more!

bikes: too many (never!)-- 2 tandems (wizwheels tandem trike and ibis upright), seven muse tourer, peugeot mountain bike, bikefriday tikit, easy racer gold rush, ice trike. love all my bikes, the one i'm currently riding the best.

many thousands of miles of recreational riding in the santa cruz mountains, touring in california and iowa, bike commuting for 3 years 25 miles/day. looking to do a cross country tour in the next 3 years. folding bike always with me at the ready on our many road trips (along with folding canoes!).

no supplements, just good clean vegan eating.

slowing down? nah, i'm just getting started!

Please tell us your age.

64.

1. What type of bikes do 50+ folks ride?

I don't know about most of them but I ride -
Custom Kish titanium road bike. Ultegra equipped.
Custom Seven Sola Ti mountain bike.
Custom Marinoni track bike (that I ride on the track)

2. Do you take any special supplements/vitamins/minerals as you have grown older?

Nothing at all.

3. How much do you feel you have "slowed down" if any?

Definitely. I can still average 18-19mph true average speed (door to door!) on solo rides but that's down from 21-22mph average of 20-30 years ago.

4. How long have you been biking? New, around a while, biked all your life?

I started racing in 1962. Next year that will be 50 years ago.

5. What type of biking do you do? Long rides, touring, short rec rides.

20 to 30 mile interval training rides. 30 to 70 mile "endurance" rides. Mostly solo.

6. How often do you bike? Your approximate annual mileage?

Always 3x per week. About 3600 miles/year.
