Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? How do you like the S3X? I've always been intrigued, but still don't trust myself on a fixie.

Since we're on S3X right now....

Here is mine. I have messed around with this set up on an 89 660, 81 Schwinn Voyaguer 11.8 Chrome, and this set up. Pics from this weekend.

Important bits: Spicer cycles frame, generic nashbar carbon fork, S3X hub. Pics from yesterday near lake Michican in WI. I personally love the S3X when set up well. I need to get my gearing under control though, and I am not sure that this frame is best for hub. I'll try to get better pics of the hub/wheelset tonight when I get home.

@50voltphantom I still really like that bike. And it still needs gumwalls and a gold chain. Just sayin'.

Gumwalls for sure. Not feeling the gold chain. Should I swap the saddle out for a WTB Silverado?

if you really like the shape of that concor but hate the purple, just take the saddle to an upholstery shop and have them refinish it in another material. bonus points for having something that someone else doesnt.

my gucci saddlebag came from seeing some hypebeast kid on a ride in 07 who had a gucci wrapped turbo saddle on a pista concept or something. he had a matching hipbag too.

posted up outside orange20. the literal old school.

^That's not a bad idea...Concors and Silverado's are both comfy. Part of me likes the IDGAF-ness of that seat but I'm conflicted about it.

It's a 61cm c-t seat tube, 58.5cm c-c TT frame. Bare weight 1018g

Thomson post and stem
Dura-Ace 7800 crankset
Stans Alpha 340 hoops(BHS front hub, White Industries eccentric rear, C-X Ray spokes)
93g carbon saddle

Other than the rear wheel, this was built up with components laying around in the spare parts bin.

I want that pink Concor if you move to something else.

To be honest, it's my first fixie, so I don't have any other reference (I am building a single-speed fixie). The thing I found odd is that is has a bit of slop in it (I believe amateur conversions have the same situation), so occasionally you get a sort of "bucking" feeling.

I'm one step behind you, since I've only read about the S3C but haven't tried one. From what I've read, a certain amount of slop or gear lash is inherent to the S3C, so your build may be as good as it gets.

Yeah, there is the mechanical lash. "bucking" is not exactly how I would describe it. More along the lines of a chain that needs to be tensioned. Mine is not very noticable, especially when I am riding that hub for awhile. I get used to it in a couple miles or less personally.

My conversions, when chain length was figured out, does not have loose chain syndrome. Drop out length FTMFW.

How many miles do you have on your S3X? I probably have about 300 or so.

I have no idea, not anywhere near 300 miles. I just started riding it more often since I moved to a flatter part of town.

Frankenmode

(Tried out iphone portrait mode. Not bad, but not as good as I expected. There's lots of artifacting at sharp transitions between foreground and background [look closely around the ass saver and stem], and the top tube got blurred out like it was in the background. Shrug.)

Level the bars
Remove rear brake
Spray paint or Plasti Dip rear wheel black
Might not be half bad
