Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Moots seatpost - Slippage issues?

I have an opportunity to pick up an older Moots post for a pretty good deal, but the shop guy was saying the design tends to slip, especially of the saddle is back far on the rails (which mine would be).

True?

If so, did you find a solution that worked for you?

It's true, it's "very slippery when wet", take a look at this picture

No problems with slippage with mine. But Moots does say (If I remember correctly) in their installation instructions that slippage can occur if the two semi-circular halves of the clamp are installed upside down. Just make sure they're installed correctly and you shouldn't have any problem.

I always thought the whole Thomson devotee thing was crap... then you people persuaded me to buy one! It's quite possibly the finest crafted thing I own. Just freakin get one.

I've got 2 Moots posts, both on MTBs. Never had a single issue with slippage in 5+ yrs of riding on both posts. The only issues with the Moots posts can be getting the clamp open enough to get the saddle rails in the cradle. But, once you get it in and tightened, it's an amazing post...very durable!

Don't worry. I have 3 - just not in the size I need for my new frame.

This particular Moots post does not have setback (which I'd probably need), and I've had bad luck with a Control Tech post with a similar (but not identical) clamp design so for now I've decided to hold out for a Thomson.
