American Classic Micro 58 front hub?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

American Classic Micro 58 front hub?

I'm looking at having a matching front wheel built to go aong with my PT SL 2.4. LBS recommended the AC Micro 58. Other options are the WI H1 or matching CycleOps hubs.

Reviews seem iffy due to bearing issues. However, I'm not sure if this was the previous version of the M58 (which uses push-in end cap) or the new version (with threaded end cap). Does anybody have any feedback on the new version of the M58? The new version uses slightly larger bearings.

FWIW, I'm 135lbs.

Thanks!
Mike B.

I've got the newer m58 on a set of AC 420s. they are light weight, simple. Only issue has been some noise. Several times (maybe twice in the last 5000 miles) I've developed noise from the hub. Pulling the bearings out and cleaning everything, then applying a thin coat of grease and putting it all back together solved the problems. Whole thing took maybe 5 minutes. I did replace the bearings once cause one felt a little rough. Probably was ok, but I took the time to pull it apart and replacement cartridge bearings are cheap. I like the AC stuff personally

I wouldn't ever intentionally buy AC hubs. Crap.

OK, so, with regards to the WI hubs, there's the H1 and H2. The H1 is listed on WI's site, but the H2 is not. I was set to order the H1, but my LBS quoted the H2, which I'd never heard of. Not much on Google. They are getting confirmation on the H1 and H2. I gather the H2 is the heavier hub, but I'm not sure why (different axle?) or what other differences there might be. Any details?

Thanks,
M.

H2 hubs have larger bearings than the H1s. I never had any problem with the bearings in my H1s, or my AC hubs for that matter. I think the AC micro front is just fine. The H1s run a little smoother with the bike on a stand (the ACs are normal in that regard for good hubs, the H1 exceptional), but that isn't a difference that you'll feel on the road. My AC hubs have been fine, but I don't like the narrow flange spacing on the rear. That makes for a laterally flexy wheel which doesn't match my out of the saddle climbing style.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread; but could you explain yourself?

I was thinking of lacing AC 205 rear-hubs to some Mavic Reflex tubular rims for racing and using the Micro-58 in the front. Do the lightweight hubs have a catch?
