Carbon fiber damage on frame

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon fiber damage on frame

I'm interested in purchasing a used carbon fiber bicycle from a third party but there's a small nick to the frame right behind the small chainring. I can't post images yet, but the damage is no bigger than the size of my pinky nail. Probably even tinier! Should I be concerned about this and is repair a viable option? Is this the sort of damage which can be safely ignored?

Assuming it's repairable, does anyone know a good shop in NYC that's be able to work on the frame?

It's pretty tiny!

Likely just a chip in the clear coat but without pictures your guess is as good as ours.

Sure they do nice work, but if you don't want to overpay for the repair there are other options.

I bet there's a reasonable place in NY, too. I don't know it, can't make any good recommendations, and hope it's just cosmetic damage. But, CF is repairable, is what I was trying to get across.

Thanks for pointing out about the $$$!

Most big cities have a few guys that do CF repair, for much less than Calfee. His work is nice, but he spends a ton of money on marketing, and has to pay for it somehow.

That’s a fair price for that repair. It’s a little higher than necessary, because the paint work is very basic.

There is nearly no end to places that now work on carbon fiber. One of the only places that can actually do a thorough exam of the frame and any damage is Ruckus Composites. I have friends that do carbon repair and I would still call Ruckus. They just do the job right IMHO.
