has it been 244 years already? where does the time go!
shoot... it's been over 40 years since I stood on those yellow footprints in San Diego, waiting to get my hair reduced to a stubble. A bit traumatic at the time, but over the years, it has started to look rather amusing.
Steve in Peoria, but not originally from Peoria (hence my status as a "Hollywood" Marine)

Best duty I had as a Navy Corpsman was with the grunts at Pendleton in the mid 1970s. Also where I got into cycling, commuting on my Motobecane Mirage, the only transportation I could afford.

I explained the fouled anchor thing to someone today... then the Tun Tavern, then the embroidery on the officers' dress cover, and that led to the piping on dress blues, then the 7 belt loops.
She is beginning to understand.

I rode in my USMC jersey on a red, white and blue bike. Maybe I'll have some apple pie and kiss a pretty girl. Just seems right.

Someone has to fight, and has to to be put in place on time and with supplies. Always appreciated. John Paul Jones was a serious bad-ass, and set the tone.

Happy Marine Corps birthday and Veterans Day to those who served. Law & I were a generation removed but I like to think I had the right stuff if needed.
My WWII & USMC dad in Hawaii, sorely missed

Thank you Marines for your service.
Chesty's resting place in in Christ Church, Virginia a few miles to the east of his hometown West Point. I go through there about once a week. Maybe some of you have participated in this run honoring him.

Cover starched? Cool glasses.
I didn't even know what a Prologue was in '87.
Much less the new tricolor 6400.
That car on the wall would have fetched mucho pineapples in Kaneohe.
About 1979 or so, as I was 19. They gave us a 96-hour pass if we ran the marathon.
I figured if I could run 12, I could run 26.2. As Forrest's mom would say, "stupid is as stupid does."
I returned 20 years later and did not beat my "previous" time.

I like Manny's idea of linking our vintage bikes with our time in the Corps...
In that spirit, here's a shot of the squadron HQ building with my bike parked in front. I think I had ready room duty that night... something about keeping a warm body in the ready room to answer phone or whatever.
The bike is my Raleigh Gran Sport.
Steve in Peoria (thinking that MCAS Yuma would be a pleasant place to be right now)
