Plug removal on Trek

I can't seem to find any info on removing these plugs in my braze holes for the rack. Would it be better to leave them & use a P clamp? Also there are 2 points on my Verve 1 rear wheel, with fenders in one so advise is welcome as my LBS gave me the worst Customer Service I've had in retail in my life.

@GennyL, Assume you mean the little plastic plugs? You just need to get you fingernails under the top and wiggle out. Shouldn't be too hard but also not easy if that makes sense. They are not threaded so they don't unscrew.

If that doesn't work you can get the pliers on them and "rip" them out but you'll stuff the head of them and you shouldn't really have to resort to that.

Not plastic & no head. In my research I came across everything from drilling them out to using a dremel to cut a line for a flat head. Not crazy about digging into frame which is why I thought of clamp instead. Wheel has 2 holes & fender is in one so am I to put rack/fender in same or separate and which? LBS put it together but seat & handle bars were off center so I do NOT trust them. Hope these pics come through.

Hey @GennyL,

Yeah that's the ones. You should be able to get your fingernails/blade or something like that under it and just slowly pull/wiggle it out. If I can I'll try and find the one's I've taken out so you can see what they look like removed which may assist.

Edit: Just found this thread which may be of assistance

Happy Dance* Thank you!!!!
Done, though I did do the hand mimic "unscrew" & pull as the plastic started to give way....came right out . Now about the fender/rack, separate holes or same?

Sorry don't know much about fenders. I wear the streak of mud up my back like a badge of honour (or is that stupidity? )

Will probably depend on the brand/type of fenders you use.

I used a small pair of wire cutters to get behind the head, then slowly rotate it and pull out gently. Came right out.

Which ever is easier. The rack should be on the inside, closest to the frame, and the fenders on the outside - this is because of the load the rack put on the screw.
