Specialized Hardrock "vintage" touring?

I hope it lasts until I take my last pedal stroke, because I can't imagine ever getting to know a bike this well again. If you look closely at the frame, you will see that it is plastered with decals from all the places it has taken me.
As far as touring on an old steel mountain bike, I always feel confident that, if the frame ever falls apart on me while I'm on the road, I'll be able to find a welder to put it back together. And having commonly available (albeit lower-end) components from front to back means I can always walk into a Walmart in an emergency, buy a junker, and swap the parts I need to get home!

2021 update
Been a while since I've been on but wanted to update.. Upgraded a bit since my last post.. Got bored during the pandemic and upgraded to 9 speed. Brooks is nice and broke in now.. Doing a trip at the end of the month from San Fran to San Luis Obispo on PCH..2nd time on that route..
