Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Gravel...water bottles?

just tried my Camelbak Chase vest yesterday, and was very impressed. i HATE wearing anything on my back when I ride, but heard good things about how comfortable the Chase was for a 3 hour gravel ride.
I got it for the rides where the 2 bottles on my frame are not enough, and am sold.
I have ridden with other Camelbak backpacks before (small and large), and gotta say the Chase is fundamentally different - access to jersey pockets is unhindered, ventilation is good, and the fit didn't bother me at all (and I am super fussy about things like that).

just another option.

It's always dust for me. If I'm riding i suck it up...literally, i guess.
if in off the bike, i wipe off the mouthpiece.

Not much thought beyond that.

agree I use an Osprey Raptor 10 no matter what I’m riding. Keeps the water ice cold and is easy to drink especially with the magnet that keeps the tube on the sternum strap. I’ve been riding with a backpack for so long I don’t even notice it.

This solves it for me. But yeah, was about to order a couple caps but the shipping on a $6 item makes it kinda silly. Will just spring for a full bottle or two.

I have a small Banjo Bros frame bag, but not big enough really for this purpose.
Blackburn Outpost Frame Bags have a hole for the bag tube and come in 3 different sizes, I chose this as an option as I didn't want a backpack but also wanted somewhere to put another layer if needed.

I also have a cage mount on my handlebars for a bottle which I use most of the time and is plenty enough for shorter mid week rides.

I don't really mind any of my camelbak's, but I have an old one that was designed to sit above the pockets for road use, and I LOVE it. It is pretty old and gross at this point, but they stopped making them. This vest is definitely something to look into!

I use a velo-orange Mojave water bottle holder that holds a 32 oz or a 48 oz Nalgene bottle, I have to screw off a lid but I would rather do that than suck in some cowpie dust from the road.

I know you don't want anything on your back, but I've yet to find anything that works better for me on a rough gravel event than a Camelbak. Frame packs can sometimes put a lot of wear and tear on your bike's paint, which bothers me. Maybe try a hydration hipack? I know serious gravel racers who swear by them.
