Rode my age today (51 miles). It was windy and overcast all day, but I only got soaked during the last hour.

I went of a charity ride- 12 miles, slow and chatty. We stopped at a near by lake and a couple of ladies had a gourmet spread waiting. Lunch was delicious. Everyone was super friendly. People were interested in our new bikes and giving me tips about using the bike shoes. They told us about the nice rides they were planning. One sounds particularly fun starting at the ocean and riding down the coast and coming back on the Amtrak. Since food is often a destination on a ride, I had a great time.

Lots of rain yesterday and today. 0 miles. 6-7 miles each day after work on Wednesday and Thursday. Looking forward to Spring and Springing forward with DST.

We did a 59 mile ride with about 2700' of climbing. Really was a nice day - very light jacket until the first climb, jersey and base layer thereafter. Our average speed was nothing to right home about, but the rolling terrain doesn't make for a good average. This was our last long ride before next weekend's Solvang Century. Hopefully, the weather will be good.

not today but rode 20 yesterday for my 11th ride of the year that brought me to 1/10 of my mileage goal for the year (1500). I'm also ~1/10 of the way to my weight loss goal of 67lbs (down 7 now). Now, I just need to get those birdies to fall to shoot five rounds under par by the end of the year.

Thanks. I'm not sure how strong I am, especially on the bikes. My rides tend to be short, 1.5 - 3 hours, but I make sure they are mostly uphill. Nordic skiing is really my hardest workout, and the most enjoyable too. In the summer I also rollerski and flatwater kayak.

Unless I have variety, I get bored. Plus, a variety of workouts allow for a quicker recovery vs doing just one thing every day
( important at my age), and contributes to greater overall conditioning. Regards, Tom

I'm just getting started on a new design flatwater training kayak ( woodstrip) for the summer. I built the other redwood stripper in the pic several years ago. Kayaking is a nice alternative workout, plus it's great fun to be out on the water.


In the hope that it's a fast kayak, I've optimistically named it "Meteor"

Today was an easy 25 mile day. Chicago weather was just above freezing with partly cloudy skies. Wind off the lake created some chill, at times.

I hope to ride 3 or 4 days a week, from now to November. Weather patterns in March can be random, but I'm ready to ride regardless.

After several days of rain including this morning, the sun popped out this afternoon and Betty and I hit the road. Two things told me that Spring is coming soon. The pear trees have burst into full bloom with an explosion of white and the wind was blowing like a beast. Steady 16mph with gusts well up in the 20s. I rode straight into the wind for 12 miles before turning to make it a crosswind for the next 6. I finally got to enjoy long stretches of tailwind for parts of the rest of the 32 mile ride. It was work, but I had a good ride.

We had 2" of rain yesterday then the temps plunged over night resulting in an inch of snow/slush on the roads. Forecast predicted a high of 34 degrees with sunny skies after 1:00 PM with winds at 15 mph. I started the ride at 12:30 with my brother-in-law and we met another rider 25 minutes into our 3 hour ride. Because of the wet roads and slush in some areas we rode our cyclo cross bikes with cross tires. The sun never came out, it never got above freezing and it even began snowing the last 1/2 hour of the ride. We did have to make a detour where a small river covered the road and bridge along our intended route. The spray from the wet roads froze to the cables and derailers and over the last hour or so we were all left with single speed drive trains. All in all it was a fairly pleasant 50 mile ride, not fast, not too cold and at the endurance pace we all agreed to ride at.

Went out yesterday for a 35-mile ride after two weeks of PT for my left leg of strained and knotted muscles. The weather was perfect with temps during the ride from the high 50s to low 70s. I could tell that I had not ridden very much since the Tour de Palm Springs - speed was down a bit. But I still did a decent job climbing a few hills and was even able to stand on the bike without too much pain. Yea!!! Looking forward to being able to ride more often and get my speed back up.

The wife and I got in a short 19 miles, the weather was only fair, cloudy, a bit windy, thought we might get snow but didn't. Sadly, the next couple of days could bring us, 4-8 inches of SNOW, "boo, hiss"!

Got caught in the rain at the higher elevations of this ride. I was freezing, but I learned that lycra tights will dry quickly and be relatively warm again. This ride is in Redwood National Park.

I was not in the mood to do a long ride on my road bike so I took hybrid out to run errands. I love going to Home Depot on a bike, I get interesting looks as I'm bungee-cording my purchases to the bike.

I bring a trailer when I ride to Home Depot. The weird thing is that I don't get any weird looks. I'm the only guy around who uses a bike trailer for cargo, but no one seems to care.

I took a test ride yesterday, just because I changed my tires. I put the knobby tires away until next winter. I put on used tires that looked good. I got about a half mile away and the front sprung a flat. The sidewall was torn. I walked it home. No more time to ride.

13 miles today after work - lower 40's - ten degrees makes a great difference!
Stoker/wife has agreed we can take up riding our new tandem in earnest once temps get above 50F.

It was a cool afternoon so I took the mtb for a short climb up a gated forest service road to the top of Wayah Bald. Ran into a couple of AT through hikers up there. It was only 4.4 miles up with 1200' of climbing but it was great to be out in the woods. It was a cool descent with the temp in the low 30s.

I just finished repairing an old Rudge 3-speed with a 1962 Sturmey Archer hub on it. The only riding I did was up the block and back to test ride it. One of the pedals is bent. I have a replacement, but it's not as nice as the original.

Got out for my first long threshold interval this afternoon. I did a 1x20 min at lowly 248 watts. I actually wanted to hold it at 240 but pushed it a bit in the last 3 minutes. This wasn't a 20 minute field test but a prep for the 2x20 workout coming up next week. My HR stayed for the most part in the upper 160s until I raised the effort near the end. I bet I haven't done one of these in a couple years. It shows because this power output used to be tempo. lol

I rode on the closed BRP at a 6.5% average grade. At my weight that makes for a 7.7 mph pace at 248 watts ave for the 20 min interval. I need to drop some pounds! It's awesome to have the road to myself when doing a ride like this one.

Temp right at 50F, sunny, light wind. Perfection. And, I did it all by myself!! - Didn't need a group around me.

I rode my old 1994 Felt B2 TT bike today on my "daily loop". 17.82 miles, averaged 14.8 MPH (the average is low because I have to slow waaaaay down on the Rec Trail near downtown Monterey), and discovered that that little bike climbs every bit as well as my Look road bike. It's like a sports car compared to a sedan - it is so much fun!

My friend from work and I cut out at normal quitting time for a change and got in a 23 mile ride. It was a little cooler than what we've been having lately (low 50s), overcast and very windy. Near the end we turned onto a shake and bake road with a slight incline and a strong straight on headwind. That wasn't enough fun, so it began to rain lightly.

Thats some beautiful country. I had a boat in Crescent city for years when we had a place in Yreka CA. We have kids in Mt Shasta CA. a great place to spend the summer out of this Arizona desert.
