Dinner tonight paired some Deschutes beers and homemade cider with some swedish potato sausages (also homemade.)

Brandy beans or weinbrandbohnen are a classic in germany, something like raisinets in popularity but boozy and often given as a gift by the elderly to the youth who tend to them as part of their community service, which is the alternative to a stint in the army. quite tasty, if you like chocolate and booze.

Na! I like MONSTER Zins like Rockwall, Rombauer, etc. Fruit forward and jammy.
Also, I prefer rich syrupy porters especially in the winter but haven't found any that I like lately. Most of them have tasted like stouts.
So, I've been drinking some stouts that taste like porters.... For medicinal use only...

Not to slam those affected by Hurricane Sandy or by the current storms in California, but we take disaster preparedness seriously in the midwest, first by having a large backup generator. Then you have to have a carefully packed Go Kit. Here is my GP Go Kit, in the basement wine closet; 8 mostly single malt plus 4 Grand Cuvee champagne. A collection of gifts mostly from Ann Arbor friends received over the years. 
Hope the BF members and their family and friends on the west coast are doing fine!

Call me a Neanderthal, but cheap beer, boxed vino and unopened bottles of booze from garage sales make my day. I even recently acquired a Mr. Beer kit to make my own brew this winter. I'm not overly concerned about image, but I am interested in achieving a desired effect. That desired effect helps me complete many frustrating repairs. The money I save goes towards buying more repair parts and supplies.

I love beer, but we have a difficult relationship. On the one hand my surname is literally beer (spelt Bier as I am of partially German heritage). However, may father also has an aversion to beer (like for the same sensitive gastrointestinal reasons). I love a good West Coast IPA (lets be honest these have nothing to do with the original incarnation of IPAs).
These days I try to stick to red wines, Gin (with soda or low sugar tonic with agave), Scotch and the like or, if I could afford the good stuff, the final frontier of alcohol and the most precious of all liquids. Cognac.
