What's the deal with the toothless ring between the chainrings? At first glance, I thought you had a triple, until I noticed the lack of teeth. Just something I have never seen before ... .

I think you should replace all of the parts with Campy Super Record...

Hello John,

Here is the Schwinn service manual parts diagram for the T.A. chainset on the Sports Tourer

the chainset exhibits the appurtenance you inquire anent as part number six



and here is a photo of one -



it is a shift smoothing ring

one can only wonder of the Schwinn folke had to argue with the Peyrard gens in order to get the fitting for the chainset on the Superior

I wonder if it really functions as intended. I would rather have a middle chainring there.
