The Navy un-retired me, good-bye for now.

I've been recalled to active duty to spend the next 18 months in Afghanistan.
I'm not sure when I'll be back.
It's quite a shock, but the $ will make up for it.
My wife is supportive thankfully, but my 9 & 12 year old daughters will have to be happy with an e-mail father for awhile.

Sadly, I upgraded my handlebars & shifters, but won't get to use them this year.

I wanted to say thanks for all the interesting discussions and useful tid-bits.
I'm a much better cyclist because of this forum.
I hope I've helped some of you with your questions.
Best of luck, and see you on the road somewhere...... Tom

Tom,
I would like to thank you , your wife and children for the sacrifices you all make. I am sure you will miss them more then you miss us or your bike. It is warriors like you and your families that give us the opportunities to rant on forums like this. Please remember that the vast MAJORITY of the people in this country are proud of you and all the members of the military.

BTW the $ will help... back in my day in the barrel, GIs didn't make enough to brag about... I guess your civy career hadn't quite taken off yet, eh?

Hmmm... I wouldn't think the Navy would be needing to reactivate folks.
Do you have a special MOS that happens to be in demand? (Military Occupational Specialty for you civvies ;-)

When were you last on active duty? I've heard of a few friends of a friends getting called back; I always thought when you were done, you were done, guess not! Good luck, thanks for serving, stay safe, and take lots of pictures.

Wow, I didn't know that. But it seems that most officers usually end up staying for longer then they have to, so I guess its only a 'gotcha' if you really really don't want to go back

Navy doesn't use MOSes... we have Designators for officers and Rates for our enlisted members.

We have to be different all around - our ranks are even different, too!

Applehead, what Reserve Center do you drill out of - on up there in NY? We're mobilizing quite a few folks down here.

Good luck! If you get the chance, jump back online every now and then and let us know you're ok, and have your wife check in with us every now and then to let us know how you're doing, ok?
