Bottecchia Giro d'Italia

1972 Bottecchia Giro d'Italia. Listing says the rear derailleur needs a new spring. Obviously has the wrong saddle. Also, seller says the standover height it 30". Head tube looks a little long for that to me, so not sure if maybe she doesn't know how to measure standover height? Or could that be an accurate measurement? I'm not very familiar with Italian frames. What is the value for this bike? This is the only picture they are offering:

This one has really low BB height and fairly short top line wheelbase so the 30-31 inch stand over is likely correct. A bit of deceptively small bike.

@SurferRosa - Good information! Makes my $250 investment not so bad. Just need to add the decals.

Nice looking ride. Wish this one was $250. But it is OBO so maybe I can get it down.

Good chance I'm going to be buying this bike this weekend. Anyone know what the original saddle was? I found the catalog page but it doesn't give details.

I did go ahead and buy the bike. I think I paid a fair enough price at $450. The seller was really nice and I wasn't as aggressive as I normally would be. It is almost everything I was looking for, Italian, Campagnolo derailleurs/shifters, chrome lugs, early 70s... Standover height is 32" so it's an inch bigger than I can flat foot standover, but it's pretty easy to flat foot one foot while other is in a pedal. I have it hanging next to my Felt Z75 disc which is really comfortable for me and the distance between bars and saddle is actually shorter with the Bottecchia. Feels ok with the little bit of riding I have done on it, so I think it's probably not a terrible size for me. I also think this size frame looks nice. Planning to clean it up and replace all the modern parts that were added to it. Paint has quite a few chips, but I think I found a decent touch up paint so I'll clean those up a little and add back some decals. It came with the big saddle in that first picture, but I put another one on it so I could better feel how it rides. I did pick up a Freccia D'oro I will be adding during the cleanup. Here is a quick picture.

in photo the Carnielli stem appears a bit high for safety

you want to have a good six or seven cms down inside the steerer for security

failures in this position can be unpretty...

Thanks, I do plan to lower it. With the big saddle and high bars I guess the previous owner was going for comfort. I really like the look of the stem.

You wouldn't see that bike for $250 around here, unless the seller did not know its worth. This thread is about what a bike is worth, not what kind of steal someone made.
