Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why yes, it's only what, 300+k round trip. I can do that pedalling the tandem with only one leg. One leg and a wobbly boot no less! Maybe munchie will, he's a bit closer.

Hmmm. Steel, one gear, suspension corrected rigid fork. I just don't know. But my daughter likes the color scheme. Have a good one Tiger, we'll mix it up again next year.

Sorry, maybe if people included their real location in their thing on the side there.... anyway, I thought you were on the north shore... you sound like a knob... hehehehehe

I lived with someone whose father lived in some posh suburb in Sydney AND had a holiday house on some northside beach that's now just a suburb of Sydney. Of course, she's probably a wealthy nutter now, while I wallow around in poverty.

Ohhhh... you're up Gosford way with rockymunchy? Of course! I should have put 2 and 2 together, and realised that from your constant dating posts!

And, something to think about... if you are a rando-wannabe, a 300km ride is a snip in 15 hours, especially on a tandem.

You know, I like the frame. Don't like the big tyres for city. Like the colour if only because (a) it's off the wall, and (b) what dude looking to steal a bike would be seen ON it in the first place! Great security feature.

Nope, not even Gosford. Newcastle, 160k's to the harbour. Munchie rides here from Maitland, because he's a nut case. Then it's up and around the beach, for the views. He'll even score a coveted Clif bar this weekend. And a great deal on some Torelli tubes. I feel so used.

Sorry... mental block about NSW. I know where Sydney is, but I have for some reason thought Newcastle was south of the big city. Even watching all those league matches didn't help. Oh well, ignorance is bliss... and I am wonderfully blissful.

I can deal with being in the Southern hemisphere, but I'm disoriented by this whole east coast thing. We go to the beach in evening, but the sun refuses to set over the water. Bugger! You're the Taswegian. We're planning a bike tour there on the tandem. Downgraded from our NZ trip, as it looks like we're going to the states in a few months. I am not made of money. Anymore. Soon.

When? Where do you land? Need accomm in Hobart (my place, very humble as it is)? Might even have another in Launcestion. Jetstar is cheap but has restrictions on baggage weight.

Route? You name the info you want, I've got it, but not until say.... after Jan 5 when I've recovered from the GiroT 1000 (which is probably the route I'd recommend, but not in three days rando!!!).

By the way, drop the Hitchy-His-High-Almightyness.... Tasmanian. You'll likely get a "get pharqued" look if you get into the habit. Which is probably Hitchy's problem

I don't think this trip is planned until 2006. Gives us a bit of time to work out the details. We'll let you know. I'm sure she's got plenty of questions in the meantime. I gotta run and fetch her from the pub. She's with my in-laws. Talk to you sometime next year. Have a good one.

Well, welcome to the party, MsVicki. I knew my flirtations with you on other forums would work its wonders, despite what that bloke Hitchy might say ... he really has eyes only for Trollie.

Hope to see you swing those skirts around here and get these Aussie boys (hot and) understanding what a neat Texas chick is all about.

And look at your avatar! You're already at home as a "Victorian member"!

Walks in to the tune of empty stubbies and champagne bottles chinging their way apart, sees four or five bodies slouched all over the place, kicks a few in the side and says "Any of you blokes up for a ride today?"

General moans of disapproval in unison... leaves the room.

Hope the party was a good one, guys, wherever you were!!

I hope you all bought new seedo batteries for the new year!!

New year's day rule: you MUST put in your new batteries and reset your odometer to zero.

You must also have the same wiring kit for each of your bikes so you can swap
the same computer from bike to bike.

Happy New Year!

I cant believe I only did 4199km from end of April 04 (when I bought my bike).
New Years resolution....at least double that this year!!

So 531....how many Km's did you do in 2004....I'm guessing about 15000km?

Happy new year you Aussie bastids (and lurkers no matter what your variety).

Had a lovely NY eve and NY with good friends and (hopefully) new lady. Just a quiet one drinking and yarnin with a great view of the Sydney fireworks from the mountains. To old for all that carry on down in the centre of town (thank gawd). Hope yers all had a good one (I'll see if I can catch up with the 1000 pages that have been added since I was last here).

Haven't been able to ride since the 27th. Can't farkin believe that no shops will be opened until I go back to work (the 4th) to allow me to get a new tire. So I've got to sit on my arse and watch the cricket instead. Sucks.

Sorry, but I couldn't help myself. Fakin good on the Aussie slectors for giving Watto a run in the team. Geez I hope he does well and carves a spot for himself.
