Ankle Stress fractures from cycling??? Anyone?
Part of thé fun of getting old. I'm wondering if my cycling has agravated my arthritis in my ankle and perhaps started small stress fractures?
Have any of our older community experienced this ?

Part of the "fun" in getting old is realizing you may not be able to recover as fast as you did when a teen. Nor can the same gears be pushed for many of us. So if you are still the masher of your youth like I was, then you might become a spinner and never use a lot of muscle to pedal again. Except for maybe long steep hills that you don't have a low enough gear for.

It’s generally caused by by repetitive weight bearing forces (unlike cycling) but conditions like osteoporosis can also weaken bones. I suppose severe arthritis could have the same effect. Have you been walking a lot, especially on hills (going down), carrying heavy loads any distance, or sports involving lots of quick movements?

Thankfully I never feel it. Like my bike, it is steel. The surgeon claimed it was titanium, but it is surgical steel.
It actually happened just before I turned 50. Never get two puppies at once.

I know of a guy who suffered a stress fracture from from cycling. Ankle or leg, not sure; he wore a boot for a while. He did a rather insane amount of ultra long distance cycling involving much climbing. He was late 50's at the time, IIRC. So it's possible.
But if yours isn't diagnosed with imaging, you won't know.

It is. You don't get any 3D information from a single X-ray image. The surgeon said that was where the bone had snapped, and he had to put it in at a different angle.
