Crank keeps coming loose
My left drive side crank on a garage sale bike I just got keeps coming loose. I re-tightened the nut as hard as I could but it came loose.
I tried replacing the crank with another used crank I had and it has the same problem.
Both cranks are well used. So what should I be looking for/taking pictures of? Crank socket? bottom bracket thing?

The crank arm is ruined - the socket has flared. It will have to be replaced. There is no other options short of JB Weld.

Oh, you can do it and it will hold the arm on fine (if allowed to cure). But you'll never get it off.

We're not talking about "wear" here, anyway. The arm was ruined because it was not put on properly (tightened enough) in the first place. Riding it when it loosened up distorted the hole. Once the hole is distorted it will always work itself loose no matter how much you tighten it.

It's gone through its second hard winter now with no loosening whatsoever. I'm just not sure if I want to bother ever servicing the bottom bracket.
Will it now need a second shim as the spindle works in? Your guess is as good as mine.
