There are no negatives to an overbuilt wheel. 4 extra spokes add about 25 g to a wheel. That less than an ounce. Those 4 extra spokes add significantly to the strength and durability of the wheel....

Why is your bike shop advocating 32 hole rims? What is their reasoning? I am sure 32 hole would be fine, but I still prefer 36 hole rims, especially on the back, but that is just a preference.
