65 miles before it got too warm. Dropped by one of our Country Clubs on the way back and talked to a fella I’ve played a lot of golf with. Field are maturing……fresh tar and gravel at the top of a hill on the route.

2 laps of 17 mile out & back on smooth paved trail. What do they call a flat ride like that? LSD?

Tired today, but rode 19+, uphill into the wind on the way out, downhill with wind at my back on the way home. Memory failed me - I thought my GPS was reporting unusually high mileage, but Strava's 'correct distance' function says it was the same as it's been all year. I'm at about 99.5 miles for the month so far. I'm way behind last year, but I think I'll make at least one of my 2 big goals for this year.

BTinNYC 05-25-22 02:22 PM

Between mowing sessions got a great 10.5 miles and 1250 feet. I'm getting better at hills every month.
edit:
On this 55 minute ride I was passed by 3 cars. 6 miles from here begins a totally empty section of New York, no people, no electricity, nuffin. No electric poles on the side of the paved County road. I like rural, that's why I'm up here, but hillbilly cannibals could be a thing. 😀

Back in town, back on the flats.

Nice Tour de Queens including the Kissena Park velodrome. First time seeing the real fixies haul the mail. They invited me to tag along on a 4 lapper. I did great until the last lap when they actually started cranking!https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...53657c5c91.jpg

Sunny, 68-70, light wind, beautiful day. Sunny, warmer (into the 80s) and then cooler projected over the next 9 days. I'm being careful about not going more than 10% farther than the longest ride in the last week. Today, my goal was 21 miles in 2.5 hours clock time, with a rest stop at my turnaround point. Tail wind going out, headwind coming home, maybe 5-10 mph. I went a little farther than 22 miles in less than 2 hours (stopping for red lights and many STOP signs). I know that isn't much to a lot of folks here, but I it's my longest and fastest ride of 2022, so far, so I'm happy.

My wife is expanding her practice so my ride plans got tossed today. But before I had to go do this that and the other thing to get the building ready for the new services she is going to be offering, I got in a nice 16 miler to meet the sunrise and made it home before a popup thundershower.

Uh, yup. Turned out it was raining in the lowlands but not in the northern mountains, quite unusual. A couple with whom I've often ridden brought their tandem and I my single and rode some Hwy 20 in the North Cascades. We rode from Colonial Creek South to Rainy pass, 55 miles and 4700' in 3:48 riding time. Temperatures were 43°-55° and there was 4' of snow at Rainy Pass, very unusual for this date.

24 miles….getting hot out there!

20 miles in temps 20 degrees higher than my last ride, 2 days ago - 88-90 instead of 68-70. Wind also seemed like it was 20 mph higher. :) (Actually wind was only 10 mph higher -15-20 instead of 5-10.) And I started out tired.... Still, it was so nice to ride with shorts, a short-sleeved jersey, and sun sleeves instead of tights, base layer, long sleeved jersey, and jacket.

Sertsa 05-31-22 05:20 PM

Had a nice ride on a hot, sunny day, but took my first spill at a decent clip since getting back on a bike in 2020.

At ride's end, I was approaching the park entrance where my car was but was approaching an older woman with her dog in the basket. As I didn't want to pass and turn in in front of her and slowed, realized I was still going quite a bit faster, braked hard, skidded and went sideways. She was kind enough to stop and ask if I was okay. I also learned my Apple Watch's fall detection does work. Anyway, I just have the requisite knee and elbow scrapes and a little soreness.

I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Anyway, my average pace has been getting back up to where it was last summer, before knee issues over the winter, and I managed 624.5KM total for May, mainly riding a mountain bike on rail trails.

Fantastic day - 70, sunny, wind less than 10 mph. I had time for only 16 miles, but I learned something yesterday that really helped today (and will help in the future). I had to go in to my doc's office to get my pacemaker read and adjusted; some stuff can't be done via wifi and phone. I asked what a-fib they saw, and they said 'none'. I pulled out my phone and showed a number of rides during which I had some events that look a lot like a-fib.

The tech said that was due to a sensor in the pacer. It senses increased activity, so it bumps the HR to pump enough blood to keep me from keeling over. The HR bump (it usually jumps from about 100 bpm to 165 bpm in a moment) is normal. I can push myself harder than I've been doing, as long as I don't get any symptoms like shortness of breath. I'm so glad I asked - it was really worrying me.

I did, in fact, push myself harder on this ride, and I rode faster than usual (i.e., what had become usual for me). I averaged just about 2/3 of what I averaged 35 years ago.:) But I slow for STOP signs and stop if a car has right-of-way, and I stop at red lights. Sometimes, of course, I stop at red lights to rest, not to respect the law....

67 miles with 32 miles of it with the Saturday group of 12. Gorgeous day to ride in NC. really nice to have 60 degree temperatures. I’m wearing the red Pinarello jersey. Probably the oldest rider today by 10-15 years…..

Today was 24 miles, really good day, nice weather high of 86 degrees, about 8 miles of beat up unmaintained asphalt and about 8 miles of gravel, the rest was good road. It is great being an old kid again!

Chuck M 06-05-22 11:19 AM

My "Sunday Run" buddy had to cancel and some thunderstorms came in anyway. But sitting around the house before church is not something I apparently enjoy and I don't like to run alone, so I got out for a short spin about the neighborhood. My dad used to say "some people don't have the sense to come in from the rain". But in my defense, I've always enjoyed tire spray since I was a kid and I will ride in almost anything. A little rain isn't going to hurt this old boomer. Besides... If the neighbors think I'm crazy, they won't talk to me.

An easy 30 miler to finish a solid 4 week training block.

Didn't look at the computer, rode slow enough to fully appreciate the beautiful and younger, totally breathtaking...world. A fun ride in perfect weather.

Not today, but yesterday I rode my 77 birthday miles, only about 2400'. I rode the first 54.2 with my wife on our tandem, our usual Sunday group ride. Then I got on my single and rode home with a couple of the riders who were with us on the group ride while my wife drove the car back. The group ride was at the perfect distance from home. Nice cool dry day, just a little sun, but that was fine. Besides the ordinary event of my going 77, our tandem team is now 150.
