Lightly wet at times, but took the long ‘commute’.

I moved back to Colorado from Tucson last week and am getting acclimated. I've been on a couple of 30+ mile rides, one in the foothills with 3,300' of climbing. I hope to get higher soon but spring weather in the Rockies keeps interfering. There's still fresh snow coming in up there, and extremely high winds (80 mph yesterday).
I'm back at work at a non-profit bike shop that takes donations of old bikes and turns them around for people who need bikes. Once in a while we get a nice bike donated and we sell it as a fundraiser, to keep the lights on. I just bought one or those for myself, a 2012 Specialized Tricross Elite Disc, to replace a heavy Fuji gravel bike. The new bike ticks all my boxes--it'll take a rack for touring, and the compact 2 x 10 drivetrain has a low gear of 34/32, plenty low for road climbing in the Rockies. Riding the lighter bike up Lookout Mt (an 1800' climb in six miles, easy grade) I got most of the way up before I realized I was still in the big ring. I turn 67 later this month and, weather permitting, will Ride My Age with a group of fellow geezers from the bike shop. It's easy to do that on the MUPs around Denver. I also have a similar urban bike path century route planned for later in the summer. |
Been riding around the neighborhood for the past few weeks when weather and time permits. Took a couple quick pics. Got more of the bike than the road. ~24 miles today.

I left the house at 8:20 this morning. I rode 11 miles to the senior center. I played whist, had lunch then back on the bike for an 11 mile ride home. I have attached a picture of the enclosed porch where I like to sit and wait for the card games.

Yes. Yes I did ride, and I'm very happy - 17+ miles, low-mid 70s, E/SE wind 5-10 mph. I look down at my hands, and I see the beginnings of tans in the big spot not covered by my gloves. I'm using crocheted gloves now, and I'm looking forward to the small checkerboard tan showing up.
As I approach 80, I'm dealing with the emotional fallout of crossing over into what I can't deny is old age. On one hand, it's finally getting through to me that younger people probably think I crossed that line years ago. OTOH, I guess I'm an OPIL, and to those who don't like seeing old people in lycra, tough.:) |

I was out at 8:30 AM for an early ride this morning. I think my new favorite ride is the Senior Center. It gives me a place to ride, somewhere to stop and have a break, and then get back on the bike and ride home. I am going to look
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d5fa629be.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2e463b5ae.jpeg to find a place where I can stick in a few more miles to make the ride about 30 miles round-trip that would be ideal. |
Rode to the train station. Starting the GAP/C&O trails tomorrow in Pittsburgh.

Nice compact kit that! Curious what it weighs, how long it takes to make ready/ take down between rides?
It took about five minutes on the train platform to get the bike ready for the train, by taking off some bags and putting them inside the large Ikea bag/backpack. I rolled the bike onto the train. The conductor said, "Please fold it just in case my boss walks by" and then he proceeded to tell me about another bike traveler from about ten years ago who was from France and riding a bicycle around the world for the French government. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a6b1cd1297.jpg Bike with panniers and other bags mounted https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...44f425bf5e.jpg Ikea bag/backpack has 2 panniers and other small bags. |
Got about 30 in today. It was beautiful and the tourists were pleasant towards me. That changes near the end of tourist season haha.
This is now my favorite ride,.the bike and the route. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...dfdf0769ca.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9c660a7ac7.jpg |
Another day, another ride. Due to my husband, having an appointment this morning my ride didn’t start until 10 AM. I got out and rode for 15 miles. as I was also limited on time on the other end, but still a ride was had. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...86e53168f.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6ffebabf3.jpeg |

Love it. Words to live a healthier life by. |
I rode 26 miles today. Tomorrow I'll get to my 100 miles for the week goal.
|
I did another 100km ride out to Saitama, and then to Tokyo Bay. I felt very good heading out, I’ve managed to ride nearly 2000km since the end of February, and my fitness level is now pretty high. But the headwind going back toward Tokyo bay was ridiculous, the water in the river had white caps. I dogged it out as best I could, and kept up a strong pace, but it wore me out.
But this morning I feel very good, I wish I had time to go for another ride. |

Whew! I've been off the bike for about 10 days due to life stuff and then a cold. It felt so good to hammer out an hour on the trainer yesterday!

Today I rode 26 miles completing my 100-mile goal for the week.

12 miles today.
I rarely see another cyclist on my daily route, but there was a scattered group today that must have been from a club ride out of the city or something. |
Nice ride on the Brian Baylis ride + round trip from home.

25 miles today. Hopefully can complete 100 miles this week. But rain is coming in my area.
|
Cheated the wind tonight. Went out at 7:15 when it had died down. Got 16 miles in.
Cheers, Scott |
I was out early this morning, at 8:15. I was able to get a 25 mile in. I didn’t go to the Senior Center today as again life obligations get in my way. But 25 is a good way to start the week.
