Some changes over the winter- new btlos wheels, 45mm Conti TerraSpeed tires, and some thin diameter carbon spacers because my old steerer spacers were stupidly chunky. |
Hoped to have the wheels done in March, ended up being April. Matching King hubs, Light Bicycle AR465 rims, pillar wing 21 spokes and purple wheel fanatyk nipples. Running 25mm tires for the road season. As pictured its 20.26lbs but that seat pack packs on a bit of weight. After the last race of last year I'll be converting to crank brothers candy pedals before the cross season starts. Short stem was a result of a professional fitting, considering the seat post height I should have bought the girl a Liv or something with more with women's proportions in mind.

BMC Monstercross
I have taken my sweet-ass time building this but it's road worthy now. I built the wheels with NPS Mavic MA3's laced to Shimano 105 hubs, DT double butted spokes, GRX 10-speed double crank, old 500LX MTB front derailleur, Deore XT Rear derailleur & Cassette, Tektro CR720 Brakes, Microshift 10spd Thumbies, Koga Denham bar...I'm forgetting stuff. I'm just excited to start riding it.

Great looking bike! I’d love to hear how you like those Denham bars so far. They look cool as hell. I’ve been thinking of trying some alt bars. I like the idea of the “hoods” on those and wonder how they ride.
They work better with shifters under the bar or as grip shift though. I would like to move the thumbshifters to the inner bar part actually but need some clamper style mounts instead. Its the only flaw otherwise, I love the feel. |

New wheels - Reynolds ATR X. The Shimano Ultegra C50s I've been using are now mounted with GP5000STR 32s for using this bike on road rides. The Reynolds are mounted with my favorite Tufo Swampero/Thundero 40s. I didn't put them on a scale, but the weight of the 2 wheelsets feels really close, and I can't tell a difference between them out in the wild. The Reynolds have a slightly wider inner width (23mm vs. 21mm), a slightly shallower depth (40mm vs. 50mm), and a more round profile than the Shimanos. The Reynolds freehub is louder. These usually sell for $1699. Amazon has them right now for $798 (maybe being discontinued?)

New frame up build, not sure I like how I painted it - wanted something different. The head badge I made from a previous logo a LBS used a decade ago.

Specialized Sawtooth tires? Yes, 42mm Sawtooth set up tubeless. They are my 3rd set (on various bikes) - they are a bit heavy but have worked well for me. |

Spotted on FB marketplace for $400. 2015 Specialized CruX Besides a little grip tape that needed to be replaced looked in great condition. I've been wanting a drop bar road bike to start riding in the road. Figured this would be good enough to serve as an all roads bike for me as we have quite a bit of gravel around here too. Pulled the phone holder off and took it for a quick 13 mile spin. Handlebars were definitely too high. Caused my back to hurt and spent most of the last part of the ride in the drops. Flipped the stem and set the spacer at +4 degrees so it's a -4. Just did 6 laps around the neighborhood (2 miles each lap) with a pit stop in between to adjust saddle height and seat set back. Much more comfortable now compared to that first 13 mile ride. This is my first real drop bar bike. Think I will enjoy it. Going to try some of the local gravel on the 33's but I can see me putting as big a tire as I can get in there. Not sure what a good compromise size will be for a bike that will see 50/50 gravel and tarmac. But I think I can get a 38 in there comfortably.

Apparently every 5 years I get the gravel itch.
GT Grade, Hunt 650s, tubeless pirellis, Cane Creek eeSilk cockpit, and a brooks to keep it cushy. Brown bartape immanent,. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fb22bcfdb9.jpg |

Brown bartape immanent,. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fb22bcfdb9.jpg Since I was rewrapping the bars I thought it would be a good time to change them out, put on a 44cm wide set of 50mm rise Redshift Top shelf's and also their grip system. Also was a good time to swap out the 2x10grx for 2x12 GRX820. Silca boa seatpack and Ti cages. 21lbs as pictured, I think that's pretty proper for having a loaded seatpack, fat 650's, suspension cockpit, and a BROOKS! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ade18e2280.jpg Probably under 18lbs with no seat pack, a modern saddle, and a little less sealant 😂 This is the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden that wasn't a fully. |
The Redshift Topshelf's were a big pain in the ass to route housing cleanly on, after much deliberation this was the result.
Proper, id say. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...69977ca7ff.jpg |
I posted this bike when it was blue/white but being home sick for 11 days is never good when a person is used to being busy all the time. The photos do not show how the blue changes to green/purple in the sunlight but it still looks ok here. I included a photo of the old paint to compare.
