I just bought my first road bike today. a 2003 Fuji League. i felt like a cop out buying a new bike but I tried forever to look for a used bike and in the end, this was the best deal. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

hey guys. i'm fairly new to this board. i've been lurking a little bit for the last few weeks, but i figured i would just go ahead and start making a few posts. my bikes: 1960-1970's? Schwinn Varsity (see commuting thread) and a 2001 Giant OCR2. I use the Varsity for my 'commute' which means getting around school and sometimes around town (Texas A&M University). The road bike is for when i want to have some fun. Nice to meet you guys.
Thanks and gig em.

My wife and I just added matched 2005 Specialzed Allez bikes to the house. Living in a condo, space is tight, so our creative storage solution was to hang them in the stairwell between the second floor to our third floor "master suite".

Good solution, Twahl. I have mine hanging from a towel hook on the wall in my room. Last year in the dorm I hung it from the hot water pipe running across the ceiling. Really does free up some space...

sorebutt 09-20-04 10:44 PM

I realized I need to update this thread. I sold my '01 Giant OCR 1 today... (see original post)

But I better post a few pictures of my New Eisentraut.. :D

I wish I had room for my bike in my dorm room. I feel so bad leaving it outside. :(

Yeah, while they look pretty cool, they weigh an effing ton and are flimsy. Im just waiting to break one of those spokes and end up on the ground when the rim then folds.

What kind of wheels did you get? I want a pair of American Classic 420s, but I need a bit more cash first :(

again we are on the same page (or nearly so). i just placed an order for american classics, except i'm getting the 350s. should be nice though, i can't wait to throw the old shimino wheels into the river and be done with them once and for all.

Nice. How do you like that ride? Ive heard great things about that bike...

Laguna 09-21-04 09:26 PM

The ride is similar to the shock absorption capabilities of my full suspension GT LS1... it's that smooth over the roughest surfaces. That said, there's a sense of being in total contact with the road at all times WITHOUT aluminum's sting.

Ahhh the joys of carbon.

I also tried the Kestrel Evoke and the Cervelo 2.5 carbon. Both were very nice but the Roubaix's easy-on-the-body geometry make this bike (for me) the perfect long distance training/fitness vehicle while the DA set-up provides an ultra precise drivetrain.

The Pro's fit and finish is elegant with a very low key/high end look and feel that's much nicer than the Cervelo or Kestrel.

Highly recommended.

Got pictures? what color? what year?

BigFloppyLlama 09-22-04 12:40 AM

Hoorah for timmhaan, sailor, and I for getting rid (or wanting to get rid of) the Shimano's. I just got my set of Speed Dream's in (new model with Aerohead rims, wheelsmith spokes, and White Industry hubs at 1407g) and am loving them compared to the Shimano's.

I did the same thing after a year of riding those hoops too. They are a bit trashed. Got my self a pair of Mavic Kyriums SSC SL's. Gawd they are awesome! It felt like I was riding a different bike after I put those on.

fore0121 09-22-04 06:41 AM

Hey Laguna, nice ride.

I'm looking at the R2.5. How did you like the ride? Comfortable? Aggressive? I'm looking for something in between and have heard the R2.5 is a good mix of the two. Any negatives, other than the Roubaix fit you better?

Thanks
f

yep - i've actually posted this earlier. but i think a repost won't hurt anyone. :) it's an 03 allez comp with ultergra.

Laguna 09-22-04 10:06 AM

fore0121!

Well, the R2.5 is a great combination of racing geometry and carbon comfort. I really, really loved it and can easily see myself on this bike if I hadn't ridden the Roubaix. The ride was similar to the Kestrel but with a bit more edge if that makes sense. The overall fit and finish doesn't come up to the extremely high standards of the Roubaix Pro but that wouldn't stop me even though I'm very picky about such things.

The Roubaix did it for me because I'm not an avid road rider and I'm mainly using it to cardio train for big wave surfing. This Saturday I'll be heading to the High Sierras to train at altitude for two weeks with a guy who is an absolute road fanatic. He rides an R2.5.
