Lemond Team Z Build
Here's my recently finished Lemond Team Z build with full Campagnolo C-Record 8 speed. I built this up to be a rider from mostly NOS parts with a few substitutions for rideability. I've been on it most of the dry days this spring and it's been really fun to ride.
For those that are interested, I substituted a few parts to achieve the best indexed downtube shifting I think you can get with Campagnolo. These substitutions include the most recent, three spring version of downtube shifters (1995+) and more recent rear derailleur pulleys with the floating top pulley. I originally had a Rohloff 8 speed chain on board, but I couldn't get it to stop squeaking so I replaced it with a NOS Sachs PC-68, which was modeled after the original campy chains. Now it runs delightfully smooth and quiet. As far as shifting is concerned, it runs on par with the downtube shifting on my 9 speed Dura Ace 7700 equipped bike, although the shifting definitely has a different feel (which I like) and a front derailleur shift is a bit more nuanced than the DA. But once you get the feel for it, it's an enjoyable bike to ride.
Other than the mid-90s substitutions mentioned above, a new Deda Speciale 26 handlebar (mounted to a NOS 3TTT Record 84 stem), and wheels built up with hard anodized H PLUS SON Archetype rims, it's pretty much as it would have rolled off the shop floor in 1991.
