Mongoose Malus to Trek Farley
Noob here. BMX'ed in the 80's, MTB'ed in the 90's, but after a stretch of no cycling bought me a cheap fat bike last year after covid took me to the brink, and I love it on the trails in NW Houston.
After over 1000 miles this year on it I decided it was time to get a nicer bike. I've ordered a 2022 Trek Farley 7, (It's green now) but have no idea when I will get it. They are saying next year. Hard to find info on it at the moment. So here's to the wait. * |
congrats!!!
i couldnt wait a year. |
Thanks and yeah a little shocked. Hoping they are just setting far expectations.

To be honest, I didn't find a lot in between. There seem to less and less offers for fat bikes each year, so I figured I'd get one to last.
I picked up the Dolomite ALX and was pretty impressed. For its price point its good but I already swapped out the stem, grips, seat and pedals and I I can see the shifters, derailuiers and brakes being weaker points. For my style od riding they are fine but someone really into this Im not surety would hold up. Good luck on the Farly, Ive always liked my Treks over the years. |
What do you ride a fat bike on down in Houston? I've been looking for one as well and live here in Dallas. Fat bikes are few and far between down here in the south.

I originally bought the bike for exercise and planned on riding it on pavement mostly, but I quickly discovered that I could drop the tire pressure to about 5lbs and hit the off-road trails with ease. Being a fat bike I can also hit the horse trails that usually run right against the creeks and contain a lot of sand. I am not setting any speed records or KOM's on Strava, but I have more fun on the fat bike than I ever had with a standard MTB. Far less crashes too. |
I have had 2 Farleys. I love my farley! Have 32 bikes and if I had to sell all but 1 it would be the Farley. That includes the 21 Fuel EX 9.8.
Congrats! Good luck on the wait! It would kill me I think!:D |

The Farley will be my next Fatbike. It has excellent geometry. I only use them on snow but they can be pretty versatile. Congrats!

I'm amazed at how agile fat bikes are... even my tank of a Mongoose.
They're saying possibly as early as October for delivery for the Farley! Better than what I was told when I ordered it. |
I just picked up a Farley 9.6. I had to drive from Denver to Aspen over an unpaved Pass due to mudslides and it was a 7-8 hour drive round-trip, but so worth. After my carbon Fatboy, the Farley is amazing. I love the taller wheels!!

I guess this pics makes more sense with the name of the thread.

Mongoose ALX
I picked up the newer mongoose ALX fat tire bike (2021) and it seems to be a lot of bike for the money. (no it’s not a TR, it was done for ***** and giggles) 🤣
I did make a few updates…😁 https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...63ad84feb.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7fb8aab66.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7f4ec24ac.jpeg |
