Dahon CLASSIC porn

So I clicked on another thread expecting pictures of cool Dahon Classics. It didn’t happen, so post pictures of your Dahon Classic here! I have nothing but love for these bikes. Here is mine:

Nice work. The stainless frame models really have a clean look when they are customized.

How about an '87-'90 stowaway , is that classic enough?

It's not in the greatest condition, but not bad for an afternoon of cleanup and rust removal by hand.

I think it looks great! I think you’ll find with a few modifications these bikes ride much better than people give them credit for. Nice work.

Thank you! I have to say after riding this bike during a Toronto winter, Stainless steel has some pretty big advantages.

I clicked on this thread expecting porn. Instead, I got bikes :)

How about not using words like porn, which are inappropriate in this post DT world anyway.

That's a great pic! Cool to see what a similar footprint both bikes leave.

There a bit of a perspective/focal length issue with that picture. The Curl folds smaller but has a significantly longer wheelbase.

Most recent photo end of 2017. I repacked or replaced all bearings. Mostly stock but added the stainless bottle cage and bottle, and stainless quick release knob I got at Ikea LOL

Real nice, and definitely on great shape.

I wish mine was so nice, but I ain't got nothin' new and shiny so it would be out of place.

Thanks, lucky and fortunate to find this bike!

Great pics of classic and curl side by side.

I agree, bad terminology but I did read about the redirecta that started the thread. I think that was a local browser or perhaps router infestation. Likely solved by now. Hope so.

Devin it will be a bit until I can dig my 2 classics out of the barns. A couple of bad pictures of the red one. The other is deeper in the mess but is black. Roger

That looks just great!!! How does the bottle cage affect the fold?

Thanks, The cage is not as high as the seat. Made two threaded bracket plates to hold the cage via compression so not to damage or drill into the cross member on the diagonal strut

I haven't gotten around to restoring this yet. The wheels are actually 451, I believe. I noticed the other day the wheels are slightly larger that my "modern" Dahon.

You have a beatifull bike, I love the chrome version.
I'm surprised by your headset, it looks very different from mine. Have you upgraded that part? If that's the case could you please share how or with which parts you did?

xerman 01-06-19 07:43 AM

My two cents

I saw someone at one of our local coffee shops on a stainless one the other day. Really pretty. I'm not sure why but I got the feeling it's a pretty heavy bike, though, from the way she was struggling to move it. But sure did love the shiny bits....and yours is nicely set off by the leather acessories!

I have to agree I love the stainless model, it's just beautifull. I don't agree in the leather part, skin from an animal... gross.
The bike is not to heavy if you replace some parts, like the bottom bracket, it's one piece and really weights like a rock.

Very nice! How did you install the bottle cage?

Hi Denny,

Thanks for the kind words. There is a small metal cross section in-between the two round bars that make up the diagonal brace. I cut two tapered aluminum pieces, drilled and taped two holes on them to mount the water cage. I hope you can see I sandwiched the two alunimum pieces between the cross section. As I mounted and screwed the cage and plates together it clamped down onto the cross section. That way if you wanted to remove the cage, the original arm will be left original
