What do you guys think about this leader frame and fork?

http://www.leaderbikestore.com/pd-ld...rack-frame.cfm

Reynolds tubing, gloss white, stainless lugs, comes with fork. Thinking about getting one.

Seems kinda expensive but looks great. If I were you i'd wait to see the lugged kilo.

LupinIII 07-07-10 09:45 PM

lol lugged kilo.

the leader hmt is a really nice bike. it's reynolds 753 i think (maybe 853, but i think 753). The geometry is weird though so the top tube is pretty long compared to the seat tube for a steel bike.

squeegeesunny 07-07-10 09:47 PM

Seems like a nice bike, much better than Leader's other frames, but yea.. the tt is kinda too long for my taste.

I wish Leader would make a sub $200~300 Pursuit frame thats simliar to Lo Pro. I'd buy it in a heartbeat :p

Squirrelli 07-07-10 10:49 PM

I wonder which Reynolds this frame is, I'd get it if it's 753, but the geometry seems too steep for my liking.

This is what the site mentions:

"Please note frame is 100% made of Reynolds steel. Until we can get final aproval and reynold decal we can not comment on the steel type used on this frame. What we can say it is not made of the lesser materials like 4130."

Squirrelli 07-07-10 11:04 PM

This doesn't tell us much...I'm just guessing that it's a 753, or better. I couldn't wrap my head around the geometry though, such a long top tube, yet a much shorter seat tube. I think I've seen one built up on the forum, it was either the track section or here.

owner of an lbs said that he talked to the Leader leader. the fee to put a 753 or whatever decal on the frame would increase the cost even more by a considerable amount, so they elected out of it.

Found it! Wow, it's 853, I say go for it.

I went a little "tarck" with the rims in my wheel build, but I always enjoy the visual aspect of piecing the bike together so I went with some matching rims. If I really get into it I'll consider looking at a set of tubulars.

Leader hand made lugged track frame
Primarily Reynolds 853 with 631 in the seat stays, stainless polished head tube lugs
Chris King 1" Nothreadset
Thomson Elite X2 stem (90mm)
Thomson Elite seatpost
Selle Italia SLR XP saddle
Deda Velocita chromoly track drop bars
Miche Primato Pista crankset (48t)
Taya 1/8" chain
Shimano PD-A520 pedals
White Industries Track hubset (32 hole)
White Industries 15t splined cog
Velocity Fusion rims (32h, non-machined)
DT Swiss Revolution spokes (2.0/1.5/2.0)
Vittoria Corsa EVO CX tires

Was skeptical of getting a Leader at first, but I was really impressed with the quality and finishing work on the frame. I also really like the set screws feature to set the chain tension on the drop outs. Can't wait to ride it this weekend at the Velodrome!

Must be going for the stretched-out, flat back position with an emphasis on exposed seat post.

That's putting it awfully nicely.

Cripes, no kidding. I'd have to ride a 51cm (with a super-long seatpost, lots of spacers, and probably a flipped-up stem) to get it to work for me. I'm a short-torsoed 6'2".

[edit: Oops, it's threaded. So a Technomic (or a Dirt Drop?) instead of the spacers and stem...]

They give you the option of 1 inch threaded or 1 inch non threaded. I think the threaded gives it a classic look. ;0)

illdthedj 07-08-10 10:20 AM

hmmm cant run brakes....

ilikebikes 07-08-10 10:56 AM

doesn't worry me much as I'm not one of those "gotta get there yesterday!" type riders, and it'll be ridden on weekends when the streets are closed at the park. ;0) Well, thats if I do end up buying the frame.

LupinIII 07-08-10 11:08 AM

i am, fukka brake

bleedingapple 07-08-10 11:46 AM

Track bikes do not have brakes. Hipsters need them for the road because they are poseurs in skinny jeans and Chrome messenger bags.

TejanoTrackie 08-13-21 08:38 PM

So, you dredged up an 11 year old thread just to troll this forum ?

And, if your mother had wheels, she'd be a trolley car.
