I have the frame from obrentharris's excellent restoration of this 1974 TC, it is still languishing unbuilt. :crash:

Tx, the resto was by obrentharris before I owned it, very well done and beautiful.

Beautiful bike. I thought you only owned and rode Merz bicycles? Perhaps you are branching out into bicycles that begin with the letter M? Bravo, :)

Mid 70s Motobecane Grand Record (perhaps a '73 given the headbadge) with the appropriate "crackling" (some of the 70s Motobecanes are prone to this problem but at least the paint on my bike is doing its job) and fairly originalish parts (I did change out the wheelset with Campy tipo hubs and the seatpost to a Campy as well).

guideline question -

do posted machines need to be MB badged or is it enough if they are MB products?

some of their owned badges include Monfort, Motoconfort, Orly, Astra, Dynamax. and then there are the contract manufactured machines for chainstores such as Sears and Montgomery Ward...

juvela motobecane and motoconfort only

My seventy something Grand Record.
I built it up as a single speed/fixed gear with a flip flop rear hub.
Can't say that I'm a fan of it. At my age I need more gearing options.
I'll probably return it to 10 speed configuration.

That bike is in great shape. If you want more gears, just find a stronglight 99 crank. It should install nicely on your stronglight bottom bracket and spindle and will look right on an old French bike. It has an 86 bcd crank. You can go as small as 28 on the inner. So you could run this as a "compact" crank. Plus new chainrings are available from some UK vendors (Spa cycles) which keeps prices down for replacement parts.

Well obviously the Merz's take priority but this was one of the first acquisitions when I dove back into bikes, Mr. Harris delivered it to my door on a trip he was taking and also being a fan, he took time to look at the Merz's.

They get attention wherever I take them, I've been at shows where somebody doesn't know Merz and still get very excited looking at them. I've also had some who know of him, had never seen one in the flesh and said the trip was worth it just for that, one guy came 400 miles and said that.

I have plenty of others and need to get some going, I may get the TC together just for fun, we'll see. ;)
