Grease stain a sign of inexperience?

Is a grease stain on one's calf a sign of a newbie or just someone who rode their bike that day

smd4 07-12-22 08:30 AM

Dirty chain...

terrymorse 07-12-22 08:42 AM

Folks around here call chain grease stains on your calf a "rookie mark", or a "newbie tattoo".

Rolla 07-12-22 08:45 AM

It's the sign of someone who puts the wrong foot down when they stop.

Mojo31 07-12-22 08:49 AM

What's the right foot?

Reflector Guy 07-12-22 08:51 AM

Fortunately, the solution to those oily, greasy stains is as close as the nearest dumpster. Vodka cleans them right up!

So, I struggled with this one, too, but I found a little trick - if you hold your hands out, palms facing away, and make a right angle with your index finger and thumb on each hand, the side that makes an uppercase "L" is the Left and the other side is the right, obviously.

:p

Not necessarily, but I did it the other day. A friend if mine had a chainring mark tattooed on his calf. It looks real.

It doesn't just happen to noobies people. I was on the bike, straddling it.

Um, non drive side?

CAT7RDR 07-12-22 09:21 AM

Rookies! Real pros know how to tattoo with just the big chainring.

Polaris OBark 07-12-22 09:26 AM

It is the sign of someone who doesn't use wax.

The left foot is the right foot.

The one opposite the left leg?

livedarklions 07-12-22 09:41 AM

TBH, this happens to me from time to time when I'm carrying or moving the bike--like in a roadside flat situation or loading or unloading from a car. It very rarely happens during riding--once every couple of years, maybe?

I wear black socks, however. Couldn't tell you if those are getting tattooed.

Don't worry, Larry wouldn't fall for the honeyed words of Big Candle.

perhaps someone can start a 'what is the best chain lube' thread to help answer this age old question.
i only want to use 'the best'.

I think you already started this proposed thread:

Thank you very much. This is a very good suggestion. I believe that through this way, we can find a suitable chain lube for ourselves.

For most riders, a new chain lube is a major financial investment. It's important, then, to prevent rust or corrosion from damaging your chain lube.
The condition of the chain lube is our most important consideration. Before each ride, we must develop a habit of checking whether the chain lubes are sensitive, and whether the chain lubes are working when riding at night. Although riding is good, if you do not master the correct chain lube, it is easy to cause physical injury.

The biggest concern people have with chain lube is how long the chain lube will last. Generally speaking, the service life of an chain lube is three to five years, and the factors affecting the life are mainly the following aspects.
1. One of the best ways to ensure that your chain lube will last for many years is to avoid contact with bodies of water.
2. chain lubes are one of the most important parts of an chain lube and can last a long time, depending on many factors. A thorough inspection every few months is recommended. The chain lube is the only contact part between the chain lube and the ground. With the right speed, clean terrain, and a good PSI setting, chain lube will last the longest.
3. You wouldn't know under what conditions your chain lube would suddenly fail.
4. chain lube can effectively block the muddy water and sand particles driven by the chain lube when riding.

The custody of Cycling Pants is indeed a big problem.

And will pay attention to my words in the future.

I'd be more worried about a grease stain near one's mouth.

LarrySellerz 07-12-22 09:53 AM

Happens to me literally every day, my right leg has a few faded marks that I didn't scrub out in the shower well enough and i havent even ridden today yet

zandoval 07-12-22 09:58 AM

Consider removing your leg so the other riders won't make fun of you.

I thought so too, but then someone told me that the left foot was the wrong foot.

Well, Larry has stated that he needs to lose some weight.

indyfabz 07-12-22 10:17 AM

I’ll get one from time to time while out on tour. A loaded bike can develop a mind of its own, especially when you dismount on uneven ground.

Pro tip: Try removing it with sunscreen.
