Huge collection available for sale. Looks like he has really nice stuff.
Group buy :)

Over 100 bikes, look like 53-55 cm range. Speedplay Zero rider, he must have about twenty sets of pedals.

When I check the link an eBay message popped up: NO LONGER LISTED!

I just checked, still there

I think it still available. The bikes look to be 54s. My wife's size. Mother's Day?

The best part is the $50 to view the collection. If you want to view my collection, I'll only charge $49.99.

I just told my son I think that is a deterrent to not serious buyers. I’ll bet the person doesn’t take the money from those who paid.

From the ad:

Sale Ends: 4/24, 6:57PM

Free local pickup from Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

The whole collection is to be sold en masse. Any offers will be considered to apply to the total collection which would be picked up and removed on the day(s) of the sale.
That pretty much knocks me out.

No way could I complete a sale at 6:57 PM.
Hop on a plane and arrive in Georgia.
And, get a collection of 100+ bikes & supplies safely packed, loaded, and gone...

All before midnight.

And, of course with time zone differences, the sale ends at 9:57 PM in Georgia.

While I am not a player for this deal, I do know potential buyers. So by definition, I am a tire kicker. Excluding me to determine legitimacy of this collection shuts out a potential sale. Why would anyone want to do business at that level with someone without a sense of business? Nickel and diming? Screening tire kickers can be done without a stupid monetary penalty.

How dare you undercut my deal!!!!

:)

Chombi1 04-15-22 04:26 PM

Uhmmm.... Just 20 cents on the dollar, he'll be making??
I wonder what might have triggered the sale......
And how does one take delivery of such a purchase?...... Semi truck + container??

Didn't say it was right, just that he doesn’t want to deal with no shows, low ballers, single purchasers.

That’s just the vibe I get from the copy in the ad.

I understand. Many times the discussion about ebay on this forum comes down to d-bag buyers. And they do exist. This listing just shows it goes both ways. I don't even mind the over-valuation this person gives themselves. Its the d-bag vibe that you point out that bothers me.

the bike museum business is pretty cutthroat

joesch 04-15-22 05:16 PM

Wow good luck with this kind of incentive:

I will allow individuals (two at a time maximum) to schedule an hour on my premises for the non refundable fee of $50.

Maybe try finding possible buyers and paying them to look and wine'ing and dine'ing hint hint ;)

You can view my garage and I will pay 19.95 for you to take some piece of crap.

diomekes 04-15-22 06:46 PM

If we're gonna do a group buy, let's see if we can gather $50 first and I'll go take a look at 'em. Actually $55, so I can get $5 for gas.

1983 cut-off must be a Classic Rendezvous devotee

rccardr 04-15-22 07:52 PM

All too small for me, otherwise could be a playa. Looks like a nice group of rides.
Bet someone like Steel Vintage Bikes steps in and picks up the whole caboodle.

Narhay 04-15-22 09:20 PM

If you're going to spend at least $50,000 (starting bid) and pay to transport and store a bunch of old bikes then paying 0.1% of that cost to take the time to figure out if it is worthwhile isn't an impediment for a real buyer.

Drillium Dude 04-15-22 09:25 PM

Hmmm...vague description of what I get for my 50k, charge me 50 bux for the opportunity to ask in person what exactly I'm getting (apparently worth 5x what he's asking here) for my money.

At a minimum he could've listed year/make/model of all the built-up bikes; looks to be less than 30?

But yeah, this'll prolly be picked up by a retailer like Pro's Closet or some such after a great deal of haggling.

Sounds fishy to me. Might be just someone w/o any marketing skills. Why no detailed list of what's in the package? Pix look interesting, but could be from someone else's collection.
Cheers,
Van

These kind of collections pop up from time to time. I remember a temple shaped collection being sold in Italy a few years ago.

If it is 100 bikes, then they would have to be very nice bikes to be valued at $250,000 which would be about $2,500 each.

I can't tell how many rooms are represented, but agree with another poster that there don't appear to be more than about 50 whole bikes.

If one is buying and breaking collections, then it may well mean stripping each bike and selling off the components. And to valuate the collection, one would need a very detailed description of everything that is included.

It is probably too much for a single U-Haul or Ryder truck. So, probably a semi or moving company. But, personally if I was to buy it, I'd be involved in the boxing and packing of the collection

ctak 04-15-22 11:33 PM

I'd be pretty surprised if he gets more than $25k for the lot.

P!N20 04-15-22 11:48 PM

Seller is not willing to post to Australia, so I’m out.
