What's the fastest you've ever gone on you cruiser?

About 47mph for me.

RaleighSport 05-07-13 06:30 PM

Motorized?

Flying Merkel 05-07-13 09:50 PM

Probably 15 mph. 16 is out of reach.

rat fink 05-08-13 12:40 PM

No, un-motorized. I need to find a longer hill.

jdswitters 05-08-13 03:40 PM

I was doing about 17 when I crashed in gravel and broke my collar bone and cracked a few ribs last year. So my maximum cruiser spreed is now 15, hill or no hill. Safety third.

Tulok 05-08-13 05:10 PM

probably around 25mph. they are kind of fun to go downhill on

Uphill, not so much.

Nice rat fink, a bit more than mine. 43mph on my electra townie. It was about a mile long downhill.

genec 05-11-13 09:57 AM

I have no way to know how fast... and frankly I don't care... it is after all a "cruiser."

fietsbob 05-11-13 10:10 AM

Another one of these ? Zzzzz..:bang:

Its a cruiser fer Chriissakes , Cruise ! .. 5 mph , look at the stuff around you

preferably Beach Bunnies..

Lascauxcaveman 05-11-13 10:52 AM

According to my GPS, 29.9mph. I think if I hit 30 it would have ripped a hole in the time/space continuum and ended up in the parking lot of a Western Auto store ca 1960. (Of course this was on a hill where I routinely go 35+ on my road bike - without pedaling.)

bicyclridr4life 05-22-13 12:23 PM

too fast, fast enough, and too slow.

AlmostTrick 05-25-13 03:26 PM

If you're going for speed records or even tracking your speed on your beach cruiser, you're doing it wrong.

CJ C 05-25-13 10:12 PM

I got up to 16mph once but it interrupted my whistling and singing while cruising so I slowed down.

Turbo231 05-25-13 10:56 PM

I did 30 MPH once on my wife's cruiser just to see what it would do...a bit of a down slope, nice bit of tail wind...she didn't really care too much for that on HER bike so I haven't tried since. Has a nice little mechanical speedo.

Nightshade 05-26-13 12:16 PM

I don't think that speed is the forte of any beach cruiser.

That image to me is just.........no!!:eek:

Cruisers are laid back easy rider bikes.

Philphine 05-26-13 04:29 PM

i don't know, it's fun to try and wind it out every once in a while. partially because at one time someone said my main stretch looked like some kind of bonneville flats beach cruiser, it just put me in a mind to try it. when i had a computer on it, i got up to about 25mph on flat ground.

ilikebikes 05-30-13 01:15 PM

Going fast on a cruiser kinda defeats the purpose.

fify ;)

Sci-Fi 06-24-13 09:28 AM

~45mph downhill (scary handling at those speeds). Peak short bursts ~23mph. Long stretch and in a rush ~16-17mph. Typical cruising speed anywhere from 10-15mph depending on how I feel and/or if I'm hauling something around...no need to have my groceries flying out of the baskets if I hit a big bump or dip...lol. With a good wind blowing... that kills and would be riding one of my other bikes if not on a shopping run. Would need longer cranks and diff gearing if I wanted a go quicker cruiser.

rat fink 08-24-13 12:03 AM

I got the funny idea the other day to do a criterium race with nothing but beach cruisers. I think it would be interesting, especially if you could wear roller derby gear while you ride and everyone does a roller derby bike race.

Dannihilator 08-25-13 08:37 PM

Don't know, don't care.

Saddle Up 08-27-13 07:59 AM

I grew up in an era in which we cruised the city in our cars simply because we didn't have anywhere to be. The car was our private rolling space. The cruising would be interrupted by the occasional drag race. Sometimes cruising is about going fast, if you don't agree you are obviously too young to remember or perhaps to understand that cruising the streets was a way of life for millions of young North Americans. Yes you would go slow at times but many of these cruisers had massive powerful engines ready to erupt. I don't see how cruising on a bicycle is any different, I love gravity and take full advatage of every down hill I come upon, hee yaw, giddy up.

So far my highest speed is 52kms per hour, tracked by my Garmin.

Cruising82 09-04-13 01:53 AM

I must say monitoring your speed on a beach cruiser is wrong. However I will guess and say around 14 to 15 mph.

cyclingYEG 09-16-13 09:26 AM

Downhill with the wind at my back I've hit 48.5Km/h (30mph) which was only a few clicks away from that roads speed limit :$ I don't have a motor so i felt pretty good about my self :P
