Nice bike, I've got a few Schwinns here myself, one a blue '56 Traveler in 23", a black '62 Traveler in a 24" frame, a red '65 Racer in 22", and one campus green '72 Speedster in with a 24": frame. The two Travelers are apart, both were in bad need of fenders, and the Traveler had damaged threads on its fork. I just found two pairs of new old fenders and a fork. The 56 still has an original pair of US Royal tires on it. I found it while traveling through AZ about 30 years ago, I bought it and carried it around for two weeks in the back of the RV.
I tend to go back and forth between my Schwinn bikes and my English bikes. The Schwinns have been on the back burner for a few years, but now that I've found fenders, they'll get pushed to the front of the line soon.

Yeah, and we gotta spread the gospel on how ideal these bikes are for short, flat commutes. They're perfect for getting around the city. Feel like people may have forgotten or haven't been hipped.

@ascherer, you will want to replace the twist shift. It’s pretty bad. I had one on my 1967 Hercules.

@thumpism, $250 is dirt cheap for a tourist here in NYC. A Sports in good condition is $400-500. A Tourist is more.

An excellent Sports here in Ontario might grab $300, most go for $100-$150. I sold a very nice Tourist for just over $400 last year. Guess we need to get these bikes to NYC! Sold this 71 Robin Hood Dropbar for just over $300 this spring. It was sold with a B17, I kept the B67 for my 72 Raleigh Sports.

How far of a ride did you take? Did the Lenton Sports handle the hills (if any) well?

The bike is beautiful. Do you have any information on the clamp-on water bottle cage? It made me wonder what the first examples available in the U.S. were. Mansfield? T.A?

15 miles or so, pretty much all hills around here. The Lenton has a 22 tooth rear cog and handles hills pretty well.

That's encouraging, because, for the very first time, I put a freewheel with a 22T low sprocket on one of my racing bikes (Moser), and am about to see how I handle fifty gear inches. Did you buy the Lenton with that low rear sprocket?

It came with the stock 18-tooth rear. It has the stock 48-tooth front bolt-on type chainring. I put the 22 on when I rebuilt the bike. I like the 22 tooth cogs enough that I don't even bother with the 18s anymore. I'm also not pushing hard downhill, so I want two climber type gears and use the high gear for flats and downhill. If you're someone who feels the need to push hard downhill to max out your speed, you'll probably spin-out on the 22 tooth. I use the downhill to somewhat recover from climbing the hills we have around here.

Yes, I have found no need to pedal down-hill on my Rudge. I just let gravity (and levity) do its thing). Not sure how many teeth I have on my sprocket, but it must be the standard AW thing for U.S. markets.

Oh man, glad to hear you don't have to sell this one. It's a beaut.

The clamp on water cage is nothing special. I had a bag of the flat straps from an old bike shop and carefully bent them to match a generic EVO alloy cage. It did work well over the years.
