Best looking components, let's list them all!

I'll go first, images are mandatory :popcorn

Stem: 3ttt Mod. 1 Record Strada (2nd version) - sleek, aero, fast, the chiseled shape is simply stunning

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3af2aed231.png

Seatpost: Campagnolo Colnago 30th Anniversary, it was a close call between this one and the chorus record aero shaped one but this looks a bit more unique
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...31be1d5ea.jpeg

Crankset: Campagnolo 10s 5 arm cranksets with hidden bolt, I would have proffered mirror finish but the hidden bolt design even though in satin trumps the mirror finish.

Rear deraileur: Shimano dura ace 7700 25th anniversary, honestly that whole group is probably the best looking groupset
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9020213d7a.jpg

Rim brakes: Shimano dura ace 7800
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8222966589.jpg

Pedals: Shimano dura ace pd-7810

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...bb8ee045f4.png

Headset: Campagnolo record

I'll agree on the 7700 25th Anniversary RD, and the entire group set. Simply stunning pieces, all of them. And maybe the Record 10 cranks.

However, there was no finer looking quill stem than the Dura Ace 7400. Nothing chiseled about it; just pure, smooth metal with nary a bolt to be seen.

Yea that's a beautiful one as well! With the hidden clamp and all I have a nos dura ace ax which is the same shape but not nearly as nicely finished, oh, and its also impossible to mount on a compact shallow modern handkebar :D

Why would one want to do that? :p

The entire Dura Ace AX line.

My bodyand especially wrists prefers them now that I'm running sti/drifters on all my roadies :) + there are still some snazzy ones out there like this Nitto m106nas which I have on my custom frame

Huret Jubilee rear derailleur.
Campy Delta calipers.
Polished Stronglight and Nervar cranks.
Campy Gran Sport 3 arm steel cranks.
1st gen Suntour Superbe cranks.
Shiny large flange "continental" hubs: Airlite, Racelite, Harden, Shelwin, FB, Campy GS.
Lyotard 23 "Berthet" pedals with stainless clips.

I like vintage brake calipers. '71 Nuovo Record and '93 Dura Ace.

Brake levers. BL 7402:

Brakes. 7700 25th Anniversary:

Cranks. DA 7700 25th Anniversary.:

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...11eeecc32f.jpg

The attractiveness of the DA 25th Anniversary parts is two-fold, I think. Obviously, the highly polished aluminum is a big draw, but so is the general lack of nickel or dark anodizing. I know this is contradicted by my inclusion of the BL-7402s. Since they are place away from the other components on their own, the contrast of the anodized brake levers isn't jarring.

Another reason I love everything about the 7700 Anniversary group is the white lettering. So clean looking.

Dia Compe AGC300

Dia Compe BRS500. Suntour has a similar caliper with hidden springs, but it's less elegant

Roval high low hub - there is an all silver version that looks even better

Sugino Aero pedal

Sugino Aero Mighty Crankset - note the air foil profile on each of teh 5 arms, and on the crank arm itself

Cinelli 101 stem

You know me well. Thank you!

Campy Skeleton brakes.
Suntour Superbe levers and 1st gen rear derailleur (or Paul or SunTour VX)
Miche Supertype seatpost
Samson Stratics crankset
Barelli Supreme pedals or for more conventional SunTour Superbe
Shimano 7400 hubs
Campagnolo Moscow or Araya red label rims
Simplex retrofriction shifters
Cinelli bars (classic) and track stem (or Nitto sculpted modern/or lugged)

79pmooney 03-28-24 12:27 PM

That "Simpurbe" Simplex slant parallelogram RD that was posted in another thread yesterday. Simply gorgeous! And probably the cat's meow.

steelbikeguy 03-28-24 12:43 PM

anything involving a lot of polished aluminum, especially if you add some pantographing! :)

Campy high flange hubs, especially if paired with some Mavic MA-2 rims (or something similarly polished)....
... adding a bit of chrome to the scene doesn't hurt either...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6b0e32_b_d.jpg

or the Campy Record crank given the "Mexico" treatment, with panto'ed rings...

Another vote for Simplex Retrofriction shift levers.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...90e5e391b.jpeg
Roval wheels with Vittoria tubulars.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f52096073.jpeg
Photographic evidence in support of the Nitto Craft stem claim.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...eedb6e1de.jpeg
Second generation C-Record crankset with etched rather than engraved logo.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...244c5f33d.jpeg
Super Record parts bin variant with Nuovo Record upper and lower bodies and C-Record ball bearing pulleys.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...517a8baa7.jpeg
Looks great but yet to see how it works.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a6830fdac.jpeg
Pretty much any Mavic 500/550 hub.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3ca900c95.jpeg
For me it’s early Campagnolo Differential brakes with hidden pivot bolts, daylight second.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...af40508e0.jpeg
A closing work of art and certainly not mine.

jdawginsc 03-28-24 02:25 PM

Another shout for Mavic 550 hubs. Good call.

jPrichard10 03-28-24 03:44 PM

Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, because some of these suggestions here are downright ugly.

Suntour Superbe first generation everything is a win er in my book except the shift levers. Later Cyclone and Sprint downtube shifters win out in my book, although I might be influenced by their performance over every other shifter (yes, I have Simplex Retrofrictions too):

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1c1d1c37f5.png

So many of the good lookers are just copies of Campy though. NR brake calipers might by tops in my book, and SR levers.

Best high Flange hubs are C-Record sheriff star by far. Nothing else comes close in my book.

Specialized small flange are nice. No strong opinions on small flange though; Record, first gen DA, Sunshine Pro-Am, Superbe are all equally nice.

Runner ups:
Super Record of course, DA 7700 but with a 7410 crankset, Shimano 6207. New Gran Compe levers are fantastic too.
