Fork Crown Width

Thinking about making a flat or semi-flat crown fork and noticed a variety of different crown widths. Some crowns rated on inside clearance and others center to center between the blades. Going for clearance of at least 28c road tires, if not a little bigger. Don't need fender clearance or anything like that. I don't want anything super wide either. Just medium sporty. Any guidance appreciated.

You're going to have to work pretty hard to find a crown that does not clear 28c tires. There were some vintage ones that would be tight.

The Allotec A17-1 is a flat crown and has a 42 mm inside width.

Tom- I could measure the crowns I have if needed, most are mix of HJ, Richard Sachs and Pacenti. The HJ crowns are the narrowest IIRC and they cleat the 28 tires I've run, although not with much more clearance. What size steerer? Andy

Tom- I pulled out the 1" crowns I have, it's a lot. Most are off topic for your needs. I measured the inside widths about where a tire's wide point might be. The HJ are about 42mm and this is about the narrowest I would suggest for a 28mm tire. The Pacenti Artisan runs about 47mm. Both for aprox 20x28 blades. If you end up wanting to use either of these (or other 1" crowns) let me know. Andy
