Basso with Campagnolo components - VGC

SOLD

I picked this eighties something Basso last summer but, being a touch small, my plan was to let it go. The bike is disassembled but I will assemble it, if you wish, or pack it unassembled, saving considerable shipping costs. Anyway, the bike will be available in the first or second week of May. Pretty sure that the seat tube (c-c) is 54cm but cannot check right now. Anyway, I will let the bike go for $500 US plus the actual cost to ship (I pack with great care). The frame/fork set is available without components for $300.00 US plus cost to ship. If interested, a zip or postal code, yours, will allow me to determine shipping cost. I will also add that, presently, I have to go to the bar to get on-line so my responses will be slow. Have a look...

I can vouch for Randy's packing.

Spaghetti Legs 03-29-23 01:06 PM

Great deal on a top end racing bike.

jdawginsc 03-29-23 03:54 PM

Dang, that’s a beauty. Full bike is a bargain.

Plus an excuse to get a few Red Stripes!

Edit: Frame is too small for me but man those parts. Cambio Rino headset, NR set including seatpost, 3ttt cockpit.

Lovely all around.

mikestr 03-30-23 06:55 PM

I left you a PM.

heidelbergensis 03-30-23 07:56 PM

I'd be PMing you if this was a 60cm... amazing bike. GLWTS!!

mikestr 03-30-23 08:21 PM

Fortunately, it is my size, more or less.

mikestr 04-01-23 12:25 AM

It most definitely is, I agree. I think it is a Gap, though I can’t be sure. The chrome fork crown was usually a Gap detail.

if a Gap, definitely SL. Maybe 1985 give or take.

Robvolz 04-10-23 10:08 PM

The RD is stamped 82.

which can mean everything or nothing. It could’ve been the next derailer in the parts bin, or a replacement,

Nope. Definitely means it is earlier than I thought. I didn’t notice the portacatena drops picture. 1982-83 sounds reasonable on second look.

Been away riding in Jamaica. Got back to the lake cottage a week ago and had lots to do to get things ready (clean show, cut up fallen trees, rake leaves, and the list goes on. Anyway, here is some more information regarding the Basso.

The frame is 54cm c-c for the seat tube and top tube. The chrome is good, the art is pretty good and the paint needs a bit of touching up. Personally, I would not paint this frame/fork set. The cosmetics are too good to replace, in my opinion.

I did a quick cleaning but some more effort should work wonders. Anyway, some more pictures...

Best shots of tubing type. frame and fork...

Cinelli bottom bracket lug with frame size (54) clearly stamped.

Sorry about the poor pictures. My phone is not the best camera to use or get good results from. Anyway, hope these help with any interests that you might have.

I find it awkward to post pictures through the private message option and another member, interested in the Basso wondered about components trades. I have three saddles that would suit the bike. The Turbo appears to be darn near mint, the other two dirty or a bit worn, but no rips in the fabric. I also looked for stems and handlebars. Sadly, most of my stems are very old school. I do have a nice Cinelli 90mm stem that would fit the TTT bar or I have a Cinelli handlebar.

The saddles...

I can check at Bicycles for Humanity for stems and bars but anything from B4H would come with a donation price tag.

Terrific color, very tempting as the top tube is on she shorter side and gravity has struck back over the decades.

I highly recommend. This far, before building my other projects out, My Bella Basso is a divine ride.

$200 for Campy Record hubs, skewers, derailleurs, brake calipers, brake levers, seat post and bottom bracket is, indeed a good deal. I do have another full set that I might put up for sale, but for more than $200.00 US. And, not even sure that I want to let the other set go just now. Perhaps if someone has a special build in mind, I could be persuaded.

clubman 05-21-23 02:04 PM

Let it go Randy...we can't take it with us!

randyjawa 05-21-23 04:29 PM

@clubman - "you can't take it with you"...

That thought has been on my seventy plus, plus, plus years, mind for some time now. With that in mind, I have been reducing the size of my little collection. Let this (one of my prize bikes) go a short while ago, locally, for what I thought to be a song...

Though I hate to sell the Basso, at my age, I would prefer that it goes to someone who will appreciate it as much as I do and actually ride the bike. I would finish the build, test ride the bike a few times, then hang it up because I ride this Marinoni Piuma, almost exclusively, when in Canada...
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5210e3f452.jpg

In Jamaica, only one bike available to me, my early eighties and somewhat beat up Bianchi. Every second day, or so, I ride to Jack Spratt's, order a couple of draft beer (when available) or a Red Stripe or two, and get on-line. No internet access in my villa and that is just fine with me. Plus, I like going to Jack Spratt's for beers, not to mention the wonderful menu (jerk sausage pizza - yumm!).
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...680ea10ee8.jpg

However, I am building this seven speed Marinoni now. Perhaps it will replace my Piuma..

I'm a little younger but in the same boat. At least we're still riding. :thumb:

I wonder how much it would be to ship to the US.

I ended up buying this bike and can give a followup to share what I did with it, but I'm not sure if it's proper to do it on this sales forum. Guidance appreciated.

Typically, once the transaction is complete, one would start a new thread in the main C&V forum.
