It's from an ad for Crescent Bikes from Sweden.

Photos always seem to make paint cleaner than it is in person. You can't really see my attempt at distressing, but I did my best to blend in the paint repair to the chain and seat stays with the rest of the paint. Waiting for the parts I ordered to come in. I do have a period correct trigger shifter in my box of goodies, but, with rod brakes, I prefer the older style with the long lever. It can be mounted so you can leave your hand on the grip and shift with only your index finger. No room for that with cable brakes. I'll use an old 3 or 4 speed trigger I got from one of my parts bikes.

Went for a ride to the park and pond with my 1978 Raleigh Superbe last night. All went well. I don't know how fond I am of the handlebars. The angle of the grips just doesn't quite seem right. What alternatives are commonly used on these bikes?

First of all, GREAT photograph! What a beautiful bike.

Regarding handlebars: I have used the Velo Orange Left Bank and the Nitto Promenade on these bikes, and they look right on there, while giving you that almost-perpendicular grip angle that I see on a lot of older bikes.

These are my current favorites. They fit my preferred riding position perfectly.

Those look like some good options. Thank you. I think I have the ubiquitous north road bars and the angle is trying on my wrists on bumpy roads after a few km.

You might want to rotate the handlebars so they point down instead of up. I found that to be a lot more comfortable!

What a nice Superbe. I like the way you have it set up. Looks like an SR stem. Lots of options for 1 inch bars. Problem is you need to see them in person to tell if they suit you. Some things just aren't good to shop over the internet.

Steco rear rack with stand - installation?
 

Does anyone have instructions on (or can tell me) how to install the Steco bike rack with stand? I bought it from Dutchbikebits.com and it has no instructions. Please and thank you! Steco Dutch style sturdy luggage rack (with or without stand)

Try adjusting the bars so that they face slightly down.

Exactly right! Where did this trend of rotating the handlebars forward come from, anyway?

I see it a lot on cruisers, and the guys riding them are sort of hanging their arms by the wrists on the upturned grips. :wtf:?

I don't mean to offend, but the mental picture one gets upon seeing this is that of an orangutan on a bicycle. Are they going for the motorcycle "ape hanger" look? I dunno... but then impressionable riders, seeing that this is what all the "cool kids" are doing, end up doing the same thing for no good reason.

But I'm not judging, of course... just sayin'. :innocent:

I've never understood this. You can't grip the handlebars unless you have arms with two additional segments and joints that allow them to arc up and over the bars and come down from the front. I'll never get it. :twitchy:
