Oops, went for one, came home with four, oops

Sometimes things just sort of happen.

Took a drive this morning to go look at an inexpensive Lotus road bike to work on as a project.

One thing led to another, plus a couple random stops on the way home, and came home with the Lotus, and a Cannondale road bike (similar to an SR series), and a Cannondale touring bike (T or ST series), and a Schwinn hybrid.

The schwinn will likely become a flip once I figure out and fix a few issues, probably the same with the Lotus. I was planning on using the Lotus as a keep it at work bike but then the C’dales joined the parade.

The Cannondales both need work, one is missing a rear derailleur and both original shifters and has mis-matched wheels. I’m thinking of merging them into one good rider, then updating the other. Don’t know yet, still looking them over and still need to ID the years and models. I will bookmark this thread and will add some pics eventually.

Oops

See, stuff like this scares my wife, so I have been warned ;) That's awesome though and look forward to your pictures and progress.

Sweet crosscut!

I had almost the same thing happen to me. I answered an Ad that said 3 bikes $20. One of them was a nice little chrome Fuji I was wanting for my wife. When I got there I told the guy that I just wanted the Fuji but would still give him 20 bucks. He said “no. The deal is 3 bikes 20 dollars”. In addition to the Fuji I got a Next full suspension hybrid that I swear weighed 50 pounds and a steel rimmed Huffy MTB. It all worked out though. I used the Seat, alloy rims and microshift grip shifter from the Next to build up a frame to give to a friend and cut one of the chain stays out of the Huffy to replace the stay bridges on my klunker. The rest was recycled.

This is the kind of story that scares my wife. Still though, love the 'dales. What a chance to make a couple of pretty wonderful bikes. Some people criticise aluminum as too harsh but I like stiff frames and fatter tires take all the harshness away. Enjoy!

I believe the Cannondale Touring bike is a 1990 ST400, Lower end touring bike for Cannondale, but great by most companies standards...

I was wrong, its most likely an 1989, the 1990 had cantilevers at that point

This one just screams "Beer Run!"

Stem shifters and turkey levers on that 80 road bike...there's an r500 from the 90s on craigs near me, looks really nice, but set up exactly like that. Not a trend I would have predicted.

The st looks to be a 23 inch frame. I'd love to find one like that to keep at my parents' house. These are great bikes. I have a 95 t400 that fits like a glove.

That thing screams - "flat tires and busted chain" it aint going nowhere!

repechage 10-26-20 10:14 PM

you did well.
the crosscut was a smart spec bike.
dont like that stem but hey.
i liked the Crisscross too.

the last Cannondale missing the rear mech could end up being a decent bike...
the declared sizing on these always has me double checking - with the seat tube extension one really has to look at the top tube length

I hate to be that guy, but the fork on the tourer looks off to me.

I want to know what happened to the Crosscut. Sweet frame!

Yeah, that was my thought as well. Camera angles and a slight turn in the front wheel can do funny things to a photo, but that fork sure looks bent to me.

Not only that but the crankset got swapped out too. Wonder what happened to the dork disk?
