OY! That's a bit spendy.

Original 1974 Eddy Merckx Molteni bike made By Ugo Derosa and used by Merckx | eBay

That one might be on there for a while.

"No shipping, if you can buy this rare bike, you can buy a ticket for a flight and take the bike by yourself in France ;-)"

Honey, I'm heading to Paris to pickup a bike, be back next week.

rootboy 12-25-16 06:59 AM

OK. Somebody find me a picture of Eddy wearing those foo-foo pansy gloves.

repechage 12-25-16 07:53 AM

I seem to recall this bike was offered a number of years ago.
If I had silly money to spend, I would want the Hour Record bike that is on display at a Subway station in Belgium.

chewybrian 12-25-16 08:18 AM

They want 50 grand, and post one blurry potato cell phone picture of the bike? I declare shenanigans!

USAZorro 12-25-16 08:25 AM

Surprised the eBay offering wasn't posted on April 1st.

That is funny.

You have to ask for more pics, but I agree a few more should accompany the listing.

Looks close. I actually like those knuckle hole gloves.
They look made out of lamb skin or something.

Same seller offering a Merckx 7-Eleven team frame of Sean Yates. $1k

Represents as genuine.

I'd be up for buying now but can't pick it up because my Concorde is having its annual maintenance at the moment. ..Please pass the Grey Poupon.

bassogap 12-25-16 01:02 PM

I would think the Yates frame would have his name on it....a friend of mine has a Motorola caloi with b julich's name...

Homebrew01 12-25-16 01:05 PM

How's provenance established for a bike like this ?

embankmentlb 12-25-16 03:19 PM

I imagine the seller would take a serious offer way less than the 50K$ Just separating the wheat from the chaff. How else do you even put a number to something like that?

repechage 12-25-16 03:38 PM

Looking at the Sean Yates build numbers, seat tube, top tube, the 20 is setback? 7.2 is my guess BB drop, rational?

Also, at one time The Merckx Co. Was undertaking an exploration into bike handling and stability, the effort to quantify the attributes of a well handling bicycle, with stated plans to publish the results, ever happen?

The seller says he had it authenticated by Ugo DeRosa. If a buyer, I would be very cautious and would like to see more, production records, notarized letters, etc. I would thing the temptation to counterfeit the bike and certificate would be high at that price.

Dear Santa,

I am writing you early to get a head start on next year. Can you please acquire this Eddy Merckx bicycle for me for Christmas next year. I promise to be very good and worthy of this gift. If for some reason this request is a tough get I would be more than happy to accept the Confente #1 that is mentioned on this forum instead as I am not an unreasonable man.

Seasons Greetings,
Ken
