2024 Post your Single Speed and Fixed Gear Thread

Has it been a year already? Happy New Year to you all.

Wanted to share this CAAD5 that I rode for a few weeks during the summer. Found on FB Marketplace for a song with full Dura Ace 7710. Rebuilt with some American(ish) parts and took it for a few rides before I traded the frameset to a good friend of mine.

I was waiting for the new thread to show up. I sadly haven't taken any fixed or single speed rides this year so nothing to post and don't just want to post old pictures and have so few of them but I do like to see what others are up too.

Like veganbikes I don't have anything new, nor am I likely to have any more ever again. Here are a few of my old favorites:

I used to have a black and grey version of this frame and I sold it for next to nothing. Regrets!

I am not a fixie rider. my go to bike is a trek 800 antelope with ape hanger bars and a front rack where Rocky my racoon rides.

I have gotten into custom bike painting lately and fixie / single speeds with their minimalist vibe are a perfect canvas for a custom paint job.

Here are a couple I recently painted. The first was a gas pipe frame, nothing special. I wanted to try a splatter paint job and this was a perfect place to start.

The second is a Mercier Kilo TT that came to me at the Bike Exchange where I volunteer . It's orange paint had beed sanded down to bare metal in spots. I kept the orange as a base and added yellow in places. The stripped effect was achieved by drizzling Dawn dish soap over the frame then spraying with flat black and immediately rinsing the soap off. A clear coat followed. I proceeded to build it up with light weight components including an aluminum fork which was already painted as shown.

All finished it weighed 19.5 lb. on my luggage scale.

Currently I just rescued another fixie frame rthat had been stripped to bare metal and then left to rust. a few hours with a sander and sand blaster and it was rust free. It is now in primer and will probably be another light weight screemer when finished. As with all my projects it will be sold by the Bike Exchange ( bikex.org) to help pay the rent on our shop.

NBD 2023 All City Big Block

Stock except for tires, which I didn't even ride the stock wire beaded Vittoria's. My job has a program that will reimburse for sports equipment, and this came along. All I had to do was pay taxes, post reimbursement. So about $100 out of pocket. This is my first new bike since I had my Spicer made in 2015. I'm not sure how I feel about the risers. They need to be trimmed at a minimum. I also need a longer stem and to make some small adjustments. Overall a nice bike. Sad they won't be offering these anymore!

Great score ! I'm very happy for you. I wish I had worked for a company like that. I'm riding mine more than any other of my fixed gear bikes, and find the ride to be dreamy. It's really crazy about riser bars. First, it was popular to make them super narrow, presumably so you could easily split lanes in traffic. Now, they are ridiculously wide for no good reason that I can tell. I mean, do you really need that much leverage ? Anyway, at least you can easily cut them down, since they use lock on type grips that can be removed without destroying them.

Even that detail of the lock on grips, just goes to show the thought put into the design of this bike.

I'll probably end up with something like 600-650 for width. I'm not 100% sure what it is stock, but it's too much 😂.

Overall, the bike is sweet. I would have preferred a slightly different sizing, but I think I picked the right one.

The program at work is absolutely amazing. If they don't again next year, I'll order a Wabi. I'll pay some out of pocket, but it's up to $1200 a year so the rest of my money will go to my gym membership, the tires, and probably some running shoes for an upcoming sprint marathon I plan on doing. I've never worked at a company that offered anything like this, and I've been working longer than I care to admit. :) :50:

You folks squeeze fenders on your fixies? The front fender is super finicky- the fit is finer than frogs hair between tire & frame. Then my foot interferes with things, not quite freaking out over this fools errand- almost feels futile.

Indianapolis

Visited Indianapolis for a quick weekend trip. My niece was competing in a gymnastics competition, so I took the drive from Chicago with the Paramount in tow. I didn't get any glamour shots as it was cold, and I didn't stop much. But I did get a few shots while out and about.

mrv I had to squeeeeze fenders into my favorite geared bike. I’m limited to 23mm tires and used those VO axle tabs on the front and some front lawyer tabs from IDK-what bike for the rear to make it happen.

The springs look more like a B-72 saddle. Not that that's a problem.
