Havent raced in about 3'ish years, moved, cant find old license. WTH?
So I was a Cat 4 in my old state for about 2 seasons then I opted for an upgrade and was getting dropped. Shortly after I either downgraded back to 4 or just left it at 3(don't remember). Fast forward to this year. I go to renew my license and it shows me as a cat 5. I talked to the local official dude and he is telling me he can't find anything but says if I do a few races in the 5's then he'll move me to 4(assuming I'm not ********).
Has anyone dealt with this before? Anyways I'm considering doing a few local 5's just to re-acclimate myself and move out of the 5's. Do you guys think I should race the 5's or just coast? I'm honestly not too excited about riding with the dangerous noobs that fill the 5's rankss. |
I would do the few 5's and see how it goes. The 4's are just as sketchy as the 5's here.

I took 7 years off. When I left, there wasn't even a USAC/USCF web site. When I returned, the site had me at Cat 3, ready to renew, with my original 5-digit number.

I took 10 years off from racing 2000 to 2010 and my info was on the USA cycling web site when it came on line. Love having the 4 digit license number. Makes it much easier for us old guys to remember it.

Seems strange CUSA doesn't have your info after only 3 years. They lost mine, but it was 20 years old so I needed a new # :(

Yes it happened to me. Long story short I started back in a category that I shouldn't have been in, after race 1 I was asked wtf I was doing there and put where I belong.

Also, your story doesnt really pass the smell test. 3 years ago and you cant remember if you downgraded from cat 3 to cat 4 or just let it ride? and a cat 4 calling cat 5s dangerous noobs is pretty rich. |

i'm on a team that has some Canadian representation, i think they all have USAC licenses. I also have a team mate who is from El Salvador and one former team mate from Portugal, they use an international license and can pretty much race in any category with it.
A few years ago, there were some guys from Bolivia around here who were high level racers with international licenses for the bigger events and a USAC license that they used for beating up on cat 3/4 races for gas $. It was kind of odd when at a race i helped promote to hand a guy $ for his Cat 3/4 finish and then see him lined up in the P/1/2 wearing a different kit. |

I'm not sure about all instances, but you can have a split license up here which allows you to race Provincial O-Cup races as an Elite and as a Master at Nationals. The catch is if you race as an Elite in a UCI Elite event then you are barred from racing Master Nationals. My wife had the split license last year and raced as a 1/2 in Ontario races, a Master for the Provincial and National champs and as a 3/4 in the US...
This year she's gone straight masters and life is a bit simpler... |
