Yes, but I ran a tap from the softener and now am well below recommended hardness levels. Also, I use the BWT anti-scale pads in the water tank. I probably have to clean the valve every other month and it's a ***** to get out.

Gotta say, much as I loved the 7400 STIs and RD on the Ritchey for lo those many years, the 7800 bits work at least as well and the STIs are more comfy for long miles on the hoods, not to mention on the hood tops. Keeps me from wanting to upgrade further.

Agree 100% on the comfort of the 7800 levers compared with earlier versions. 7900s were the same (or very similar) shape and comfort, but the 7800s shifting is better.

My description of it is "They shift like thought", meaning all you need to do is think, "I want to be in a higher gear" and you are. Often there's not even any sound of gear change, just the *click* of the shifter.

Got this frame in the early 80s and Peter updated it for me from the original Nuovo Record with NOS 7800 in 2014. Agree with all the comments. Wire rope was simply never meant to go around tight radii.

We opened this last night. I think it was a wedding present. Pretty good with a bit of cheese!

I've had that thought too, but last two days, riding with an ex-Cat I and owner of 2 big bike stores, on his old steel bike, may have shifted my frame of reference.

Those racers and their steel bikes! A friend has lots of bikes, new and old. One time I asked him to come along on a climbing ride in the mountains and he brought his 28 pound Atlantis and still spanked everyone. Haven't seen him in a while, miss him.

Thanks - I'm in no hurry to replace it. Heck, there's probably a better chance that I'll move to a new 12sp, semi-wireless group (getting rid of the shift cables, at least), before moving on from the Cervelo.

how much for your ultegra group?

That's weird. Why so often? Is it the construction of the valve or something? I've replaced the valves in mine once in the 14 or 15 years that I've had it. That was just from the gaskets deteriorating, causing a drip.

What, to sell it if I upgrade? No idea, and it'll probably be a while 'til I'm there.

French Press is good and low-tech.

Okay fine.

Resigned from my job yesterday, the weight that has been lifted is incredible.

Yes. Probably a Caledonia or Aspero. I may just sell the R3 for a 105 equipped Caledonia and upgrade it.

Got something lined up, or just going to relax for a while?

Start something new next month, just a little time off. I’ll be remote 3 weeks a month and in Pittsburgh one week per month.

Good luck with the new gig! I hope they appreciate you.

Not a fan of French press. I like my espresso hot and full of body/flavor. I’ve yet to experience a French press that can do that.

Yup. French press is fine and dandy, but no substitute for espresso.

When we had just gotten the boat, we needed a new genoa and had finished spec'ing it out with the sailmaker on a busy day at the loft. She looked at me and said, "don't we need an asym too?" The place went dead silent until some guy asked if she had any sisters or something.

That's what you call a "keeper", right there.

She might just be my type! The response I always got was that the sails were not ripped so why do we need a new one. That was even the response once when the sail seams were coming apart.

Trader Joe’s outside-in stuffed gnocchi is pretty good. Worth a try.
