fantasy criterium du dauphine time!

hay everybody...the big tour de france warmup race is here. imo...the hardest stage race of the year to read-criterium du dauphine. great riders engaging in feints and shadow boxing as to their true tdf form. will they/won't they go all out on a particular stage. super-domestiques occasionally let off the leash for the overall.
great race to (re)familiarize yourself with up and comers & ones you forgot about.

haha indeed. about 24 hours left to give/receive beatdowns with impunity.

slcbob 06-04-17 05:16 AM

There's no cutoff for that. The beatdowns will continue until morale improves.

Good to see the usual suspects again. Perhaps a few more will trickle into the league. It seems we have a good bit of diversity in our picks so we might have some ups and downs as the race explodes.

I have a great feeling about this one. At least for another couple of hours!

slcbob 06-04-17 11:17 AM

^ Famous last words. De Gendt can hold that jersey for a while. At least no one else in our league picked him.

In my quick pick I managed to put a non-starter on my roster. Good job, me! Probably just as well, you guys might need the help. Ha ha ha.

diphthong 06-04-17 12:46 PM

kicking myself for not keeping de gendt on the team. subbed him out yday for roche. know what he's capable of but it's been awhile since he struck.
auditioning a buncha guys for the tour and going waay under credits. my strategery should find me solidly enconsced in last.

yah...whatsup with brambles? quick-step saving him as their secret tdf weapon? i don't recall hearing about an injury.

I dunno about that. Gallo's 0 in stage 1 -- with all the assist and breakaway and misc points flying around, that is HARD TO DO. Any relation to the esteemed attorney Jerry Gallo? Or is that Callo? :roflmao2:

My coin flips were between Valverde & Bardet, and a churn of the 8-10-12 pointers around Coquard-Brambilia-Kwiatkowski-Colbrelli-Talansky(cursed every time I pick him)-Roche-Kreuziger-Richeze. I saw De Gendt there for a bargain 6, almost used him to stretch the budget a bit knowing he'd be good for some mountain and breakaway points, never thought the bunch would let him get away with a stage win.

Good for De Gendt, he's a scrapper. Great to see.

It may look that way now, but I always rack up enough non-finishers to level things out on my own.

i drew the short talansky straw. it's my turn (again) to bemoan his presence on my team.

dang it! Missed this one also! I'll try not to space out on the TdF!

didn't you win the bike forums tdf last time or the time before that?
last thing we need in our cozy little league is someone that knows what they're doing. :p

slcbob 06-06-17 08:38 AM

^ even a blind hedgehog finds an acorn every now and then.

Good lord, this race is proving to be a wacky one. Omniscient words in the original post about it being tough to pick.

Yes, but as with investments, past performance is not an indicator of future success.

please...no boilerplate prospectus action here.
we are engaged in a really
important affair here.

your "win" may have relegated you to walk the earth loveless and forlorn henceforth, much like caine from kung fu.

you and your hedgehogs.

diphthong 06-06-17 03:53 PM

as big a feather in the cap/palmares as it would be to finish absolutely dfl, i think my elite squad will step it up just enuff to miss out on that. maybe an outside shot at a bottom 10% placing.

as for the race so far...to quote for the movie butch cassidy and the sundance kid, "who are those guys?!"

diphthong 06-07-17 12:18 PM

aaand after stage 4, ranked 4,192 of 4,192. dfl. only four stages left to defend this lowly ranking.

slcbob 06-07-17 02:19 PM

:thumb::beer::roflmao::roflmao::P

Do you prefer Lantern Rouge or Maglia Nera?

Thank God for Talansky and his 11 points. (oh, the irony)

:roflmao2: :innocent:

diphthong 06-07-17 09:50 PM

maglia nera. the irony of talansky being my (relative) breadwinner is not lost on me.

slcbob 06-08-17 04:19 AM

Well we're all doing lousy. ooga-booga, you're the only one doing something spectacular.

At the moment I'm the cream of the crap here, 1st place in our league but still bottom 50% of the general population. Nothing to write home about.

Own your glory! If you're lucky, Talansky & Co. won't let you down (i.e., they WILL let you down).

Actually it was very easy and is consistent with my fantasy strategy start out really slow. don't gain any momentum mid race and finish weak

diphthong 06-08-17 02:11 PM

the omg wtf dfl dream continues...

in other news...if anyone else is interested in doing the tour de suisse for further humiliation and hand-wringing, let me know here. if there is interest, i'll post a thread w/league code, name, etc.

slcbob 06-08-17 04:58 PM

Way to hang in there, buddy!

Gallo, don't sand bag on us, the way you passed ooga-booga like he was standing still might wind up in the text book next to momentum. ;)

I've already picked a team of winners for TdeSuisse. The only question left is who are they going to be beating upon.

dstrong 06-09-17 12:07 PM

I'll do the TdS as a warm-up for the TdF. Send the code!
