GMR 4th of July. Yes it's early. Suck it up...

may flew by and june's nearly here. that means the annual 4th of july (or thereabouts) ride is nigh. it falls on a wednesday this year. i haz zero idear what the local constabularies
will do in terms of road closure or lack thereof. i'm assuming gmr will not be closed. perhaps some local yokel can update this thread with the latest & greatest. so who's in?
stage from encanto, pioneer or road's southern end. gmr/grr to the village and back on the 4th? who's in?

jimincalif 05-24-18 07:50 AM

I'll see if I can round up some folks. Our club had a ride up there on the 12th, but we lost half the group due to rain, so some may like a do-over.
@jcb3, @tunavic, @TrojanHorse, @DrIsotope?

DrIsotope 05-24-18 07:54 AM

When y'all pick an actual date, let me know. Every once in awhile I've got, you know... family stuff. I haven't even mentioned Onyx in June to her yet.

TrojanHorse 05-24-18 10:27 AM

Even if it's not closed, traffic should be light on a wednesday. I have never made it on the fourth, wouldn't mind it this year, especially if it stays unseasonably cool.

Depends on the start time.

It will take me an hour and a half to get to the start, so probably will not make it. :)

diphthong 05-25-18 11:05 AM

boo hiss!

Tycho Brahe 05-25-18 12:45 PM

Well, considering you are slower, I can always start later and catch up. :P

diphthong 05-25-18 01:20 PM

never a truer tortoise and the hare comparison made. this tortoise enjoys climbing but is no good at it. musta been dropped on my head dozens of times as a child...

Just teasing. I also was slow getting up to Dawson Saddle. Placed in the bottom 50% on Strava, which means I am slower than average. It would be great to ride together again, so we'll see how the 4th looks as the time gets nearer.

JimmyNH 05-26-18 06:57 PM

I'm in, but will start at 8:00 from the Glendora high school.

Elvo 05-26-18 07:42 PM

Might be in. Hopefully I'll keep the rubber side down again. Might also start from the HS

Not really, what it ACTUALLY means is your effort that day was slower than 50 % of everybody else's best effort of all time. :D

Planning to do it again this year - but probably start earlier as I am super slow and need to get back for kid activities - but I'll wave as you pass me. haha

@jcb3, you might be interested.

tunavic 06-08-18 03:12 PM

I'm planning to join you all on this ride but I also intend to start fairly early - 7 AM or 7:30. I'm considering starting at the Claremont Metrolink:

I'll be up for it, but it all depends on what the wife has planned that day....

Rick@OCRR 06-18-18 11:48 AM

I'll definitely be on the ride GMR/GRR on the 4th. Last year I told Missy at Mt. Baldy Lodge that there would be a lot of cyclists up there on July 4th so she baked two pans of her famous cinnamon rolls and sold every one. Usually, she only bakes the cinnamon rolls on Sat. and Sun. but she made an exception for us.

What do you think? Should I ask Missy to bake come cinnamon rolls for the 4th of July?

Rick / OCRR

jimincalif 06-18-18 12:58 PM

If she has cinnamon rolls when I get there, I'll buy one!

Would love to see Genaro again. You around, Leatherneck?

diphthong 06-18-18 03:55 PM

maybe it's just me but I'd rather have a quality beer on tap vs a cinnamon roll. fewer calories. maybe they can install a few taps for some quality craft beers in mt. baldy village before the 4th?

jimincalif 06-18-18 05:12 PM

Roll at 0730 - at the lodge ~0945? Too early for beer for me, even though it's always 5 o'clock somewhere.

Coffee and cinnamon roll sounds great.

Rick@OCRR 06-20-18 09:32 PM

Okay, will advise Missy, No promises but I will see how she responds to my email.
